Does anyone know if I can replace the stereo that came with my Vibe with the DVD Navigation stereo? My car came with the Moon and Tunes package. Has anyone replaced their DVD system with an aftermarket stereo that they would like to get rid of?Shaner
Shaner2003 VibeThe first one from our Pontiac dealer.
This would be something your have to probably have done at the dealership. Or at least by the DVD system and then install it. There is no reason why you couldn't do this though. It's gonna be kinda pricie though. It's $1,600 plus the dealership might charge extra to order in just the DVD system.
I believe the GPS antenna fits up in the roof just about where you moonroof is, so mounting that would be a bit of a problem. To be honest you could buy a laptop with a DVD drive, GPS unit and software, and wifi for less than the cost of the factory unit. For a lot less you could get a Garmin Street Pilot (~$400) which would work in any car. I'm a big fan of navigation systems when traveling but can't justify the expense of this dedicated system. Look around the web for GPS info and systems before you take your dashboard apart.Larry

Alpine has a number of GPS DVD based models available. ( more $ than factory). Also their antenna is very flat and mounts neatly on the top of your dash. Please note: "After market window tinting will reduce or kill the GPS signal as it passes through the windshield" ... keep that in mind.As for the size of your stereo dash opening in the Vibe, it is a double DIN. A GPS unit can fit in a single DIN space using a retractable LCD screen, so you've got lots of room. Check out a few of the Car Audio shops in your area, they should have a few on display to play with.Good Luck.[Modified by 1234, 4:41 PM 6/19/2002]

Actually the GPS antenna is in the dashboard. The owner's manual for the GPS system mentions not to put anything metal on the dash, as it can damage the antenna and/or the system itself.
