Introduction

Post by Tronix »

Hi all, Just figured I would start out on the forum by introducing myself and giving a little background, So you dont think I'm just some blabbering idiot, you'll KNOW I'm just a blabbering idiot! anyway, My Name is Brent, I'm 29, From Cincinnati.. Just bought an loaded Abyss Vibe for a grocery getter. Here is my pride and joy...http://www.teamcelica.com/members/display.asp?ID=Tronix If you actually clicked the link and browsed, You'll see I'm heavily into modification. I'm the Team Owner of Team Celica, One of the largest worldwide Car clubs. My new Project is the Vibe. I've already begun modifications, I bought the Vibe on Friday, and put 1200 miles on it this weekend, so It's already past the break in..Lining up the mod parts now, I've got a set of 17" Gunmetal Konig Toxxins, and a Front tower Strut bar already..I'm trying to decide on which springs to get, Hotchkis or TRD.Going with the TRD exhaust, and tinting the windows all around..Trying for the Evil Dark Wagon look.I'll have pics of the progress. and I'll be posting around here alot, and doing full install instructions with pics to help out fellow owners.-Tronix(stay tuned)GT

Admin: Thanks, yeah, ive torn this engine apart many times. have installed 14 sets of springs, and have done countless intakes and exhausts.. so I'm pretty seasoned on the internals and bolt-ons already. I definitely look forward to providing alot of the same Help I've been banging out for the Celica crowd.Nova: I havent been to the track in awhile to give you a true time. I'm more into autoX than drag. Stock Celi's run high 14's With the modifications I have, and the 75 shot of Nitrous, I probably run high 12's I have a Turbo lined up for it this winter. It's going to be quite a little screamer by spring.-Tronix(TRD Vibe?)GT

Oh, Admin: what happened down there last night.. I was coming back from Birmingham AL, and I got stuck on 65 just south of Louisville near 44. They shut down the highway for hours. Took me forever to get home.-Tronix(road rage)GT

quote:Stock Celi's run high 14'sStock 6-speed GT-S Celicas are more like mid 15's. Page 6 of this article says 16.0 @ 88 mph but I think those number are off. 15.5 @ 91 is closer to reality:http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddr ... ds=celicaI used to easily stay with the GT-S in my old 3.1L V6 '93 Sunbird (which ran 15.5 @ 87 mph)quote:With the modifications I have, and the 75 shot of Nitrous, I probably run high 12'sNo offence but that might be a tad optimistic. Page 2 of this article says that the Rod Millen Motorsports/Toyota Racing Development Ultimate Celica with 497-hp (22-psi turbo) and AWD only runs 13.3:http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddr ... icaGranted that is slower than it should run due to traction problems but the trap speed of 108 indicates a truer ET of high 12's.With the turbo you plan to add (and the nitrous) I could see you getting the high 12's but with just a 75-hp shot of nitrous I'd expect closer to high 13's.Yours is a sweet car. Probably more setup for road racing than straight-line. Good luck with it and the Vibe. Looking forward to seeing what a Celica fan can bring to the Vibe.

Looking forward to seeing what a Celica fan can bring to the Vibe.Heh, yeah If I read that I would believe thats what the celica runs, however its not right. I dont know how they possibly got so slow of times.. powershifting into redline, most decent Celica owners are hitting 15.0 even, all the guys around here run 14.9-15.2 stock. none of us are stock anymore, but do have quite a few timeslips of team members..We've been compiling a database of confimed times.. check this out if you have a minute to kill..http://www.newcelica.org/other/track/index.phpif you look around you can find all kinds of conflicting times for any car.. but one driver, test driving a car they dont own or drive everyday, isnt going to have the same results as someone who knows the car. So I often find the car and driver or motor trend tests a little slow. They also had the top end at 127 at one point, which is laughable, because the Celica can hit 140mph. I honestly dont think they even test this stuff sometimes. It may be a tad optimistic, but if you notice in our database, We have one 13.9 on a 50 shot of nitrous, and with just an intake and exhaust.pushing about 225hp. up that to closer to 275 and a car that weighs 1500lbs is flyin. The "Utlimate" Celica has too much power for its size/weight, cant get the power to the ground, so they run into serious traction problems with it.Sounds like a good run in the Sunbird though thats pretty quick.-Tronix(rubber flyin)GT

It'a all about torque. The Sunbird would walk a GT-S by a car length off the start but by half track that advantage would begin to disappear. The 3.1L runs out of breath too soon and that's just when that GT-S starts making power. By the end of the track the speed difference would be 5 to 8 mpg higher for the GT-S with a similar (or quicker) ET.The torque of the 3.1 (185 @ 3200 for the Sunbird vs 133 @ 6800 for the GT-S) gave the Sunbird the better start but more HP (180 @ 7600 for the GT-S vs 140 @ 4200 for the Sunbird) gets that trap speed up.

Most of the time slips I have seen at newcelica.org are in the 14 seconds range for the GT-S when some mods have been done.
