Brake Master Cylinder, Rebuild Kit (Toyota)

Post by Vibraphone »

Hello All.

I'm doin' a full brake job on the 2006 Vibe, with ABS. I'm rebuilding Master Cylinder. No leaks or dark fluid, just preventative maint, given everything else will be new. Questions: Does anyone know if 2006 Vibe with 4-wheel ABS has same Master Cylinder Specs / size (bore?) as non-ABS Master Cylinder?

I want OEM Toyota repair kit: 04493-60270 / 0449360270. But three's no mention of an OEM Toyota repair kit that specs for 2006 Matrix cars with 4-wheel ABS? (my equivalent Vibe). In my experience, most ABS Master Cylinders usually have bigger bore than non-ABS.

Thanks in advance. This is the only part left, before the nearly new 20yr old Vibe gets her first full brake job. -Will

i'm inclined to think that the ABS and non-ABS master cylinders are different. Looking at ebay listings, there seem to be ones that list compatibility with ABS models, and different ones for non-ABS models. This, however, doesn't address the compatibility of rebuild kits between the two types.

Ebay ones tend to run about $40US, and its always some gamble buying "new" parts off ebay, but if you really want to bother with the master cylinder, $40 might save time/hassle

Thank you. Its such an easy repair job. I have seenreferences that ABS master cylinder bore is larger. But oh the Toyota kits...??? My son is stationed in Japan. OEM Toyota parts are about 50% cheaper. So I'm trying to get OEM stuff while the kid's over there.
