Alternator isn't charging, tested at a parts store and they saw voltage problems, plus dadh light is now on after that test. Looking around and I'm not sure if the 1zz is different from the 2zz, and see a wide range of prices. Before I just walk to the local auto parts store I thought I'd see what folks recommend. FYI it's kind of a backup car with 250k miles on it but we're not hesitant taking it on 200 mile trips to our cabin out in the boonies.
I don't know what the differences are between the two, but Toyota alternator part numbers for an 04 Matrix are
27060-0D110-84 (1ZZ, base, XR)
27060-22090-84 (2ZZ, XRS)
so it does seem like the different engines get different alternators. Perhaps its a mounting thing.
autozone seems to offer different alternators depending on whether 1ZZ or 2ZZ, although their website's "select a vehicle" gives you two engine choices for an 04 Vibe, but I can't tell which is which.
If it were me, I'd probably go with an aftermarket one instead of a Toyota OEM, but for me which one would be a trade off between cost and warranty
