Rear and passenger power windows not working

Post by KJones »

My 2004 GT's driver window is a bit off the track so has only gone down about an inch for some time. Today it was able to go down 6 inches. So it was a hot day and I left it down and the passenger window all the way down. It rained hard while I was out in a different car. Driver window went up but jams 2" from closed, not too concerned just have to get to fixing the track problem. BUT the passenger window does nothing trying to close it. AND both rear windows do nothing trying to move them. This happens using either the switches on the driver door or the switches on those doors. Everything else is working, including the sunroof and door locks that are on the same fuse as the power windows, and the jammed drivers window moves. The manual mentions circuit breakers for the power windows but doesn't say where they are located.
So I'm asking for advice. Switch on driver door maybe, although why the switches on the other 3 doors don't work is a puzzle. Those mystery circuit breakers, maybe, whoever they are. The jammed slightly off-track drivers window maybe messing up some wiring? Or something else? All was fine before that rain.
Thanks in advance!

That is a strange problem and some of the symptoms could be just the windows getting binded or loose regulator bolts but that does not line up with other symptoms. And the likelihood of all of the switches failing is slim.

I have a 2007 and 2008 and I know they are different than the 03-04 Vibes. I did some searches and there are some previous forums that might help:

The down side is that some of the thread links and the pdf link does not work anymore but the text might help! Keep us posted!

various forum software upgrades have caused some links an attachments to disappear, but in this one thread, I edited it to attach the two referenced PDF files. I should still have all the files I've uploaded here, if you find another that's been disappeared, let me know.

In the thread I showed above, I uploaded the wiring diagram for the power windows, which for reference, is now at download/file.php?id=5913.

If there are any circuit breakers, they'd have to be in either the window motors or the driver's window switch, but I don't think there are any..

The driver's window switch has a toggle button

if that button was pressed, or if something in the window switch malfunctioned, then that could cause the non-driver windows to not be able to move using the non-driver window switches, or if the switch is really messed up, maybe not even work from the driver switch

I also attached a pdf of the front door overhaul, may not be all that relevant, but perhaps of some use in trying to get the front glass back on track

So happy to find this and "fix" my issue with non-driver windows not working. I didn't know what that control switch was for.
