Dextron III re: power steering.

Post by ZZvroom »

The Fine Manual for my 2003GT specifies Dextron III for power steering fluid. Seems it's hard to find because there are now IV,V,VI etc.

Is there any source stating later ones are/are not OK to use?

I haven't used it but Valvoline still has a Dexron III product: https://www.valvolineglobal.com/en/dex-merc-atf/

O'Reilly/Auto Zone/Advance all appear to carry some sort of Dex/Merc fluid.

I have Valvoline Maxlife ATF in there at the moment, mainly for convenience since I'm running that in the transmission. It is backwards compatible with Dexron III but is a full synthetic, low viscosity fluid so I've wondered if I should really be running that. Works just fine thus far.
