2006 AWD Vibe U Joints?

Post by Amrandall83 »

Hello all … I have a question. I was told that my u joints need to be replaced. If so, how many does my ‘06 awd have? I’m having so much trouble finding the answers I need.

The sound I’m getting is a rubbing type sound. We’ve done the following:
1. Replaced all wheel bearings
2. Both transfer cases; fluid changes and refill
3. Checked all arms and components
4. Boots and cv axle joints are also fine

I don’t know what else it could be other than U joints?
It’s definitely a moving part because it disappears when I’m 7 mph or lower (There about).
I’m seriously stumped here! I would appreciate some input if possible.

Attached is info for the drive shaft for the AWD model. If I remember right, there was Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) put out by Toyota about noise from the clutch pack bearings for the rear drive. It may still be on this forum board if you use the search.

The same TSB from Toyota was also for the Toyota RAV4 model; here are some links to the coupler bearing issue that may be worth reading.
