05-08 ECM recall still valid? If so how can I check my ECM?

Post by Jackstand347 »

The title almost says it all. I might buy a 2008 vibe today with 90k miles and I'd like to know more about the recall.
What are the chances some vibes haven't been fixed and if i find one that hasn't is the repair still covered
And would long term use with a bad ecm, say 100-150k miles, cause secondary problems that i should know about and put me in a place where the Emc is covered but maybe not the other issues that the ecm issue caused?

And lastly,
I saw on an old thread you could check the ECM number to know if it's a bad one or not but the link to the page with the part numbers was dead. Anyone know where I can find out.

Sorry of these things have already been addressed I did some digging and couldn't find anything so wanted to ask. Hopefully someone jumps in before I buy!
Thanks!

Welcome to genvibe.

I don't think there is an expiration on recalls, and they are not limited to original owners

Found a description of the ECM recall at http://www.carsandracingstuff.com/libra ... 387000.php Doesn't seem like the problem would result in secondary issues to me, but my opinion is certainly no guarantee

Can't find a place to look up ECM production numbers, but if you can find a production number, then you could call GM, there's a number in the recall

You can probably look up the VIN on GMs site at https://experience.gm.com/ownercenter/recalls to see if the car was ever evaluated for recall NHTSA 10V387000 / GM 10282 or any of the multiple airbag recalls

Ask the owner for the VIN (or jot it down if you are close by) and enter it here:
