Ported My Throttlebody Pictures

Post by roadrunner-r »

Here are some pictures,i used epoxy to smooth out the whole from the PVC. I just put on a Mini K@N fliter on it. AS for performance,it has better throttle responce, and to me it gained some torque between 2500-5000. IT helped topend as well. I also did the Coolant bypass as well. I recomend doning it.

Where's the MAF sensor if you have a 3" intake. You really need that. It's about 2 ft away from the throttle body. I think these smart motors will keep running in a default mode but drive ability and power will suffer alot. Worsed case is BOOM. Might be that 1-2 problem your having. GTs have the best throttle responce in stock form but will make more power with intakes.

The MAF is in its stock place. I just used a 3" rubber cupling, and used that to adapt to the 3" hose. I was gonna go all out and make a one out of PVC pipe. TO me it was pointless to go to a 3" their. Going threw all that trouble. It already 2 3/4 there ant much resirction there.I think the intake has some resirction,But that another project when i rack more miles up.(1500 on the clock)

I used sanding drums and then i used some fine grid sandpaper. It smoothed it (By hand)Oh ya i did everything by looking at it,thats what did to my LS1 and gained 5rwhp on the dyno and 2lbs of torque

nice.lol in the works bypassing power steering and a/c. When you take power steering out you might have to strenghthen some parts i think. (not sure but i dont have any PS on my malibu or 68 camaro, its fun )bypassing AC wont give you much power i think unless the AC is on....which in that case it wont work . i think ill do my throttlebody today.

What mods do have on your Iroc? I ran one lastnight (auto) from a stop by the end of the 1/4 i had about 1.5 wagons on him. He had a exhaust and K@N. What do Iroc's run in the 1/4 stock?

Most stock 80's IROC's were mid-15 to high 16 sec cars. Most were 305 V8's but there were a few 350 V8's. The 350's were the ones in the 15's while the 305's were the 16 sec cars.

Really, wow! I didn't know '88 IROCs came STOCK with an aftermarket intake, headers, exhaust, computer chip and mass air flow sensor. Here are just 2 sites that list the mid 15-sec times for late 80's IROC's:http://www.car-videos.com/performance/d ... times.html

Yes, a solid V8 only needs simple mods to go fast. An intake and throttle body along with the headers and exhaust help the engine breath better. Remember, the technology in the 80's was nowhere near what he have today. Most cars now have very good flowing intakes and exhausts.

I wouldn't do anything with PVC. Heats up and releases gasses that could harm your motor. Just a thought...

You were talking about making a piece for the intake out of PVC. I was suggesting that you find a different material to do so. That's what I'm talking about...

It's important to consider the properties of any materials you use in a project (a friend of mine once used aluminum for an exhaust pipe -lasted about 5 min. before it melted!), but I think the temperature at which PCV melts/outgases is quite a bit higher than Vibe underhood temperatures (except very close to the exhaust) so it shouldn't be an issue.

I was going to use the pvc,but i felt that it wouldnt help that much as i stated. The Maf is 2 3/4,Thats why i didnt use the PVc. I use to own a 2000 GTP. It had a blower, underhood temps were hotter.(vibe) I used a PVC pipe to make my CAI it never melted.

I noticed better throttle response in the lowend. 2500-4500. Also in the topend as well.

Melting wouldn't be the issue. Gasses released from heating up would be.

True, but not much outgasing occurs until the temperature approaches the melting point. Also, being underhood, human exposure is limited (think of exhaust gas, battery acid fumes, etc.)and apart form some very slight potential for deposition on the mass flow sensor, the engine would be immune to same.
