Just filled the Vibe with it's 500th tank of gas

Post by SeattleJeremy »

Most recent Odometer: 172,555
Total Gallons: 5601.901
Max MPG: 36.30490956
Min MPG: 24.36298614
Lifetime Average MPG: 30.77054968
Average Miles per Tank: 345.50501
Max Miles Per Tank: 448

MPG Average for 2006: 30.38690282
MPG average for 2007: 31.13307143
MPG Average for 2008: 31.30615882 (Sept 2008 Yokohama ADVAN S.4 tires)
MPG Average for 2009: 31.18706206
MPG Average for 2010: 31.5401313 (Nov 2010 installed Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires)
MPG Average for 2011: 30.01625232
MPG Average for 2012: 30.70626477
MPG Average for 2013: 30.76753646 (Nov 2013 installed Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position tires)
MPG Average for 2014: 29.00807236 (to-date)

After the Bridgestones where installed the fuel mileage has rarely been above 30mpg, but they suite my driving style much better than the Yokohama or Continental tires I had before.

My previous car was a Subaru Impreza WRX, which averaged 23mpg. If I would have kept that car to this day I would have used 7502 gallons of premium fuel in the same distance. I saved about 1900 gallons of fuel, and 37050 pounds of CO2.

That's impressive. Keeping tabs that long is even more impressive.

I am saving about $70.00 per month in fuel compared to the previous vehicle, Ford Windstar.

I haven't been keeping track of the fuel costs because it costs what it does. So it's just Date, Odometer and Gallons put in the tank. Still so much data :)

I applaud you for keeping tabs on it that long! It's kind of a pain, however I think is entirely worth it to have the data. Years ago I started logging in google docs and then transitioned to Fuelly to help keep track of it all. A quick text to Fuelly with the info at each fill makes it fairly simple.

I've logged every tank on my current Sonic and the Accent before that. On the Accent, I had 560 tanks logged (114k miles - small tank, meh fuel economy and fueling up well before it was empty contributed to the high count.)

I started logging fuel-ups in Mrs. Panic's Vibe once I discovered Fuelly. Closing in on 100 fuel-ups now and 30k logged.

Keep up the good work. 8-)

I too applaud you for your determination and effort logging this data for so long. I am also one of those people and currently log data on the FOUR vehicles in our family fleet. We don't drive them a whole lot so some entries are months apart but the data is priceless if/when a problem arises and you need that "benchmark" to use as reference. Here's to 500 more fill-ups ;)

Great data set, like how you logged the tires...
Bet you wish gas was still the price of those early fill ups...

That's actually one of the reasons I don't track the fuel prices, the other reason is I'm lazy and don't want to enter the costs in to the spreadsheet :)

Very interesting thread and some impressive numbers Jeremy ;)!

I just entered my mom's 155th fillup and my 147th fillup on MPG Tune. It's very interesting to be able to go back and compare info from both Vibes, etc. I too enter any important information with the fillup i.e. the first full tank in my mom's Vibe after I installed the K&N SRI and AEM air filter, when I add Techron to a tank after an oil change, etc. I just wish I would have been keeping track of all this from the very beginning :(. Oh well, better late than never I guess :|.
