Revisiting an odd CEL issue

Post by NeverTwoOld »

I previously posted about my CEL NOT coming on viewtopic.php?f=18&t=40971 and propmtly forgot about it after passing the last inspection. However, since then the issue has resurfaced and I'm wondering several things...

1) Does my '06 Vibe use LEDs in the cluster or bulbs specifically for the CEL?
2) How difficult a fix is it if it's a bulb?
3) How difficult a fix is it if it's an LED?
4) Will I need some sort of wiring diagram or are the connections self explanatory?
5) Any other help/advice would be appreciated.

$550 for a new cluster or a couple hundred to fix one LED just seems silly to me.

These videos should answer most of your questions:

Thank you for the videos. I had seen the first one but not the second. I'll have to open it up to see what kind of bulbs I have and look for videos on replacing LEDs if that's what I end up having.

Well, I managed to get the cluster out but it's all circuit board and LED's and I'm not comfortable enough with my skills in that area to not mess something up. I couldn't even figure out how to get ODO reset "button" off it's stem. Hopefully my local shop will be able to fix the issue without it costing as much as a new unit :/ Thanks to all who have given advice.

Well problem solved folks. Turns out it was a bad diode for the CEL. I took the cluster to a local Speedo/guage shop and they fixed it right up - $85 out the door. Could have easilt taken advantage but this was a straight up guy and I couldn't be more happy.
