Not sure I like that front end. The long hood and headlight/grill line almost looks like it belongs on a pickup. The tail lights are cool though.

This is for Europe Version, the rear and the side will be the same as North American Model.
Their front end have to look this way to "complement" the Euro Corolla Hatchback and the Avensis. North American front end will look more like "Avalon"

But based on what these photo look as to compared with the concept showed in Detroit Auto Show. They toned it down quite a bit both the side and the end.

This is from a Polish website. Their 2012 Corolla Sedan is 100% looking the same as we do. I would say there it is a possibility we have the same front end as they do.

2014 Corolla XLE with Camry style grill.
I believe the Corolla S will have different styled bumpers and side skirts as the one we see from the Detroit Auto Show.
The Interior style will be a tone down version of 2013 Rav4. With a little bit of stitched padded dash strip going across the dash. However the dash design will be better integrated with the front door panels as opposed to the disjoint design we see from the redesign rav.

.....Does it still have a four speed automatic?

Good that Toyota finally got around to updating it, I was beginning to wonder...

Think what we're seeing in that nose picture is the scary corporate face across much of the Toyota family right now. Look at the new Sienna, Camry, new Rav4, Yaris and the Venza. All have a version of the wavy or middle dipped top grill. Corolla definitely needed upgrading... but have noticed a lot of extra (excess?) styling in recent models, but not only from Toyota, though. Hope it's not a long term trend.

Sometimes the designs turn out better live than in pictures, so will wait to see. Corolla does need a few mechanical up grades for sure. 4 speed automatic is a trailing edge feature, even in this segment!

corolla uses 4 speed automatic since 1992.

The new car should be first application of 6 speed auto for Toyota's small car segment.

That's good, they at least caught up to a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. ;)

Though they're soon to be behind the curve again once Dodge gets their 9 speed out there in the Dart and others follow suit. At some point though, we'll get to a point where it's just too many freakin' gears for a small engine. 9 actually sounds a bit excessive, it will be interesting to see how that works out.

In Toyota's defense, that 4-speed was surprisingly efficient for what it was.

The rumor is that the 4-speed auto will be replaced by a CVT. The 5 speed manual might be replaced by a 6-speed manual.

I'd rather have the 4-speed over a CVT. But a 6-speed manual sounds okay.

I think many people and manufacturers are going to start drawing the line at eight. Six seems to be enough. When we rented a Malibu with a six-speed the shifts were smooth, but it did shift a lot. But it didn't take a lot of gas. "Eco" trims are going to make a comeback, though. Like the Civic HFs of old, the fuel economy trims will return to every car. Chevy already has Cruze and Malibu Eco. Dodge has the Dart Aero. And so on...

Despite my bias against the Corolla, and this design, I'd like to see how the stuff under the hood performs. After all, as a point A to B car for people not concerned with style or enjoyment, this is at the top of their list.

For my opinion the choice of using a 4 speed in current generations strictly based on cutting cost by allowing to gain more market shares. But real world efficiency performance (combine cycle)it is just as fine as a Honda 5spd or even on par as the Hyundai 6 speeds, of course you are loosing your bragging right like a towing capacity in every pick up truck maker.

Now in a more favorable exchange rate,As Yen loosing its strength you will see Japanese automakers has more budget to jazz up the interiors like what they did at the pre 1997 eara. It is hard to believe the 93-97 corolla beige interior still hold up well after 17 years of reliable service.

As Korean currency is tie to USD, as long as USD appreciate you will see Hyundai and Kia are jacking up prices.

Ugh.

People will still buy it. Like the in the current Toyota commercials where a guy says to his friends "LOOK at that NEW TOYOTA!!!!!!!!" and they all gaze longingly at.... The aged, bland as a toaster Corolla, as if it were some sort of sexxxy exotic supercar.

At least the Dash looks Good in my opinion. Looks 70's retro, which is fine with me!
Also has an advanced CVT transmission available, along with (you guessed it) the 4 speed automatic. Plus a six speed manual - Yeah!

So wait.. they changed the CVT so that it simulates "gear stops". Does that not mean it's a) no longer continuously variable and b) the efficiency gains from the lack of "shifting" are gone?

The JATCO CVT's Chrysler used when the Caliber and related Jeeps came out did the same thing. Because people apparently don't like an automatic without the feel of a "shift." I don't know if this changes anything other than feel... Great question.

Man, that dash does look very 1970's. Should have finished it off with a horizontal speedometer and sliding HVAC controls.

Hopefully the owners will be able to disable the "shifting".
Nissan and other manufactures make CVT's with optional "shifting" when it sport modes. But even in "Sport mode" if you mat the gas it's going to spin up the engine and just hold it there forever.

The Car Connection gives the new Corolla a good review! Those wheels would look great on a Vibe! Don't say Dodge Dart.

And Jalopnik absolutely panned it, stating "The 2014 Toyota Corolla Is 2003's Best New Car."

They had a prior article commenting on many similarities found between this "new" one and the tired old one that's currently sitting on the lots. I was expecting more "new" but I guess looks is about it. And a CVT.

There appear to be many better things to choose from, but I suspect people will continue with what is "safe."

WOW! Jalopnik tears Toyota a "new" one. Can't argue, sounds like an honest review. Interesting Mazda 3 review there too.
