Where can I get a legit battery tray?

Post by DanMan35 »

My girlfriend owns a 2003 Pontiac Vibe. I changed her battery the other day and noticed the battery was just sitting on top of an old piece of metal with no tie down at all. I went to AutoZone and bought one of those universal battery trays with tie downs. Tried to install it today and the thing is just too damn big. It doesn't fit properly in the engine bay. I can only get one bolt in it to fix it to the engine bay and it is so large that the sides of it are rubbing against other parts of the engine and therefore I don't have enough room to fix the tie downs to the sides of the tray to tie the battery down.

I looked everywhere online and can't find any Pontiac Vibe battery trays. Any ideas?

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has all the parts new, but it could get pricey if you need everything. I just searched for battery tray under 2003 Vibe.
Tray #2 is like $20, and the brackets # 5 and 6 are like $11 and $5. If you need #3 & 4, they are another $13 and $15.

Best bet is to look for a Vibe at a salvage yard close by on http://www.car-part.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Maybe you will get lucky. And Badvibe on here is parting out a couple of cars if you haven't already checked with him.

Holy crap lol. Looking at that picture, 3 and 4 is what was on her car. Her battery was just sitting on number 3 with no tray or tie down at all. I unbolted 3 because it looked like a piece of crap. I didn't know a tray was supposed to go on it. How does the tray stay fixed to #3? Also, if I was to get bracket #6 does that come with the wingnut or screw to tie it down? Or do I need to get that myself?

What exactly does 6 hook on to? I think I am missing a part because mine just is hooking directly on to the flat, plastic tray...so it pretty much doesn't hook on to anything for me right now.

Tray 2 just sits on top of 3. Tray 2 is a shallow rectangular plastic pan. In the drawing on the bottom of the tray it shows a small circle and an arrow. The arrow identifies forward for proper orientation. The circle represents a small circular bump extending below the rest of the tray bottom. It fits into a hole in #3, keeps the tray from sliding around.

With a battery, and parts 5 and 6 installed, the whole thing is sandwiched together, the battery is clamped down holding tray 2 in place.

Hook 6 attaches to a small opening in whatever body metal is under the whole thing

Thr diagram and parts list don't show a separate bolt for the hook #6, so that would suggest that it is included. But if not, you can probably find one at any hardware store.
