What is the lowest sales price for the 2009 1.8L automatic with preferred package (power locks, etc) and AC that folks are seeing? I just got an out-the-door price of $18.2K including tax, destination, fees (this was a labor day and employee discount sale price). Good, or could I do better?
after everything including employee pricing 500 dollar rebate processing and destination fee taxes and title and tags i paid 17370.66this is just with AC, Prefered Package and Automatic on a 1.8l vibe whose msrp (if built on the pontiac site) was about 18730
Someone posted earlier that the employee price for a 1.8L with a/c, automatic and power package, MSRP $18,730 (including destination) was 17,236.25 less $500 rebate, net of $16,736.25. Of course taxes and fees would be added tot hat. Some dealers are adding more discounts - e.g. local Chevy dealer $600 less than employee price on all 2008's. You probably won't see that on the Vibe.Is there a $500 conquest or loyalty rebate also? That is hard to pin down. I suspect these may be limited and are used by the dealer on as as needed basis.

Making a/c an option just allows GM to advertise an eye catching price.[AT is a MSRP $850 option so not likely to add only $400.)

yeah auto is an $850 option but according to the site i included, you get a larger discount on that. But i dont understand why anyone wants a 4spd auto in an economy car. learn to drive a standard. you will love it and never go back. better acceleration, braking, mpg, and way more fun. And it costs you less.

And it costs you less. The AT is MSRP $850, $748 invoice. With employee pricing that may go down to perhaps $725. Long term, maintenance on an AT is less than clutch replacement.Resale value on AT is higher.I can shift gears but IMO the AT is worth the 1 mpg. I've even heard AT is safer for old people like me who, like the late Gerald Ford, have difficulty chewing gum and walking at the same time.

resale value is higher because the car costs more to begin with. I doubt that the AT sells for more than the option price. Plus there are plenty of cars that i see go for a premium with a manual cause the manuals are usually hard to find. Sure a manual has a clutch replacement at 100k miles but i have seen entire ATs go out sooner than that and that is a serious repair. But mainly i hate driving the AT. It is mindless, no fun and i hate my car creaping forward at every light. Also if you know how to drive a manual properly, the mpg difference is way more than 1mpg. It is more like 3-4mpg in my experience. But i just like a good manual over an Auto.
oh hey just found this article on manual vs auto transgood info there and dispels the myth that autos cost less to own.http://www.edmunds.com/advice/...ual.0.*
My next car will not be a manual transmission because of my fiancee. She can't drive stick (and we've tried). It just works out better for some owners to have an automatic. And a CVT would be more economical than a manual transmission (mpg wise)...As for being on topic, I wouldn't worry too much about what you paid stock. If you are happy with the financial deal you worked out, then it doesn't matter if someone got it cheaper. I see it like buying a nice new LCD TV - once you buy it, the next guy will likely pay less for the same model...can't look back and regret it.

AND the employee pricing has been extended to Sept. 30th. BTW, the GM employee discount sucks!

I wonder what % of AT's go out by 100,000 miles. I wonder what % of clutches (a wear part) have required replacement by 100,000 miles.Unless it is a error, the specs on the new 2009 FT show higher mpg for the AT than the manual. One advantage to a manual is that fewer relatives will ever ask to borrow it. I know someone that I think bought stick shifts just for that reason.

Jake, it may not be an error that the Automatic gets better mileage than the manual.Typically, for those interested, the manual gets better mileage because it is a mechanical connection. Automatics are hydraulic connections so there is more slippage in an automatic. There have been some big advances in automatic tranmission design lately (of course, they weren't at Chrysler - j/k).

in the EPA testing im sure the auto managed better mileage than the manual. But in the real world it is very rare for a manual to get worse mileage than an auto. Just go look at fueleconomy.gov and check out the data submitted by owners.
