We are selling my wife's 05 Kia Optima. There is nothing wrong with it at all. It runs great, but in her words "Its an old lady car, not sporty enough". I can afford around 18,000.00 without getting upside down on the loan. So, listed below are the possible replacements. What would you buy?
tC every time. The G5 is just a warmed over Colbalt, and I personally hate them. The Huyndai is a ok car, but it still won't hold it's value like the tC will.

I've been leaning toward the tC, I have to get her to drive one, hopefully this weekend. We already drove the G5 and crawled around a Tiburon. She really likes the Tiburon but it has no back seat room at all. I'm hoping this poll helps sway her a little. As far as modding, she is more concerned with appearance than performance, so any mods would be cosmetic. I'll be doing enough modding for both of us once the Vibe is out of warranty.
I'd go with a Tiburon GT V6 w/ the 6speed. I am not a fan of the Tc, they to me are like little *******s that run around and kick you in the knee. Not to mention the sides of that car look way to high for the size of the windows and stuff. Just oddly shaped.Besides its faster

The Vibe is a big reason why she wants a new car. She loves the way it drives but not crazy about the looks. She really wants the Tiburon. I want her to drive a tC and look at the G5 again for comparison. In the end, it's her decision, I'm just making sure she compares a few different cars in the same class before we spend the money.
-100000 on the tc, yuck... Tiburon all the way, especially with the '07 restyle. I've always liked the Tibby ever since the beginning, well maybe with the exception of the '00-'01s that had more lights on the front than the family truckster. But the '03+ has always been pretty nice to look at, I'm glad they didn't make that much of a change with the overall design for the restyle. I used to want one, but now I guess I'll probably never end up with one, it's just too dang impractical. But sometimes not having the capacity to haul people around can be an added bonus. lol!Get the SE, cool stuff like painted calipers, cross drilled rotors, and a nifty engine torque gauge.

Ok, I'll be the party pooper. If I understand you correctly, you have 18 grand burning a hole in your pocket and the wifey is driving a late model '05 that's in great condition, probably has low miles and maybe still under warranty. Dayum, lots of people would like to be in your shoes. How about this option, keep the '05, that's in great condition, for four more years. Invest the 18 grand in a top quality growth mutual fund(s) that should make 12%. At the end of four years you'll have a 6 year old car that's still worth something (and probably paid for by then) and a little over 28 GRAND in cash value. Take part of that cash, along with the value of your 6 year old paid for car and buy a newer 1-3 year old late model vehicle with cash and trade-in value. If you re-invest the remainder of the cash (like the original 18 grand) it's very possible to drive late model vehicles the rest of your life WITHOUT any car payments. See, I told you I would be the party pooper but hey, it works.
I actually have nothing burning a hole in my pocket. The 18K I refered to is the amount I can afford to finance without going upside down on the loan. We owe about the same as trade in value on the Kia, so trading the Kia pays it off and we start over. This is all about timing and getting my wife something that she will be happy driving.

Ok, I mis-understood, so try this one on for size. The average car payment today is $378. The "future value of regular deposits" of $378/month, for 48 months, in a top rated growth mutual fund (again 12%) is a little over $23 grand at the end of 4 years. The point of this is, if your wifey was willing to drive her present late moder car for 4 more years, you could invest $378/month in savings that will appreciate in valve, rather than spend $378/month on a car payment for a car that depreciates in value. I guarantee to you, more chins will drop when they here you paid cash and don't have a monthly car payment than from what kind of car you bought.
That's excellent advice if I actually had that money to invest. Regardless of whether we kept the Kia or traded for something else, I still have the car payment. If we keep the Kia-4 more years of payments. If we trade it- 5 years of payments. In either case, I got a car payment to make.
Ahhhh, but there is a way out. You may not like it but it will work. Keep the car for 8 years. Pay it off in the next 4 years and start saving the last 4 years. Lots of people drive 10 year old cars. Let's face it, a car is a means of transportation, not an investment. During the next 4 years you'll probably get some nice big fat raises so you can pay the car off early and start saving sooner. Let's say, for example, pay the car off in 3 years and save for 5 years. The "future value of regular deposits" at 12% for 5 years on $378/mo is, are you ready, $30,871. Wow, that's some cha ching. Keep doing it that way and you can buy a $30,000 car every 5 years and never have a monthly car payment again.
Well, the question is not performance or mods, and it's not finances. If the reason for changing cars is to get one that "looks" more sporty, then it would have to be the Tiburon or maybe the Vibe. The others on the list don't "look sporty" at all to me.

That TC makes me wanna build a lil TC for giggles. The motor is being proved to be able to handle 16PSI stock, up to 12 PSI safely with stock fuel system and putting out arounf 230whp with 9psi. SO much aftermarket out now for those.

Yep, 3500 engine rpm alright but not the turbo's rpm. My guess is upwards of 75,000-100,000 rpm for it and all things being equal, the bigger the wheel, the more time it takes to spool up.

I'd still say thats a large turbo by any means. What's a Tc 160 stock. So 84hp by the numbers. Stock vs. stockTiburon SE6speed2.7L DOHC V6172hp181ft. lbs.Tc5 speed2.4L I-4160hp162ft. lbs.The Tiburon SE is a slightly faster car in the 60, 1/4 and has shorter braking. Not to mention with that V6, you can most likely get more hp without doing too much crazy work on internals and such. Thus saving you money on mods and upgrades. Sure you can have a 250hp Tc, but it most likely would need a lot of stuff such as new rings, manifold, exhaust, pistons, etc. to be able to handle the power and boost constantly and be a daily driver, not just a show car. The Tibby would probably fair well with a bunch of mods without having to go insane with replacing internals and fuel pumps and such. Just seems easier to me if its gonna be your wifey's car and you want it to be sport, look good, drive quick, and last!
It's looking like it may be the G5 GT - 2.4l, 173hp, 163ft lbs.We just made an offer on an 07 with leather, auto, sun and sound, power everything and Onstar. I'll let you know later tonight if we get approved for financing. We drove a lot of cars this weekend: G6, Grand Prix, Tiburon, Scion Tc and Toyota Camry. I liked the 06 Grand Prix (3.8l Supercharged) the best. She's in love with the G5 GT. It's her choice and from an economic standpoint, probably the best one. Here's a link to the car we're hoping to get: http://www.wedekindcars.com/in...3839#
GTPs are fun cars for sure!Whatever she gets, she better love it first, cause thats the big kicker. The G5 is the same as the Cobalt and Ion respectively. I'm surprised the GT model only has 173 and is not like the Cobalt SS or Redline Ion with the 200 supercharged. I guess they are saving that for when they give those cars a nice bump and slight redesign and drop the new power into the GXP version of the G5. Good choice either way, I'm sure she'll love it.P.S.- Not so much the Tiburon, but the Tc is def. seen as a chic-car around here.

As for needing alot of mods to daily drive, go browse Turboneticsownersclub a bit and read up on'm. Stock internals on daily driven cars pushing upwards of 20PSI. Cars safely running stock fuelsystem with 10+ PSI. If the Tibby wants my love they need to release the V8 tib they were blowing steam out their butts about.

It's now official, At 4;30pm tomorrow, my wife will be the proud owner of a 2007 G5 GT Coupe. Thanks to all for your input. I was hoping she would like the tC, but it just didn't appeal to her. I also had to resist every urge to talk her into the supercharged Grand Prix that I fell in love with. I did accomplish what I set out to do, put her in something she would be happy with. Again, thanks for all the advice.
