Post by savedbyzero »

I just got my XM Commander receiver installed and 30% tint all around! The tint looks so nice on the mono Abyss! I also put the XM receiver in a slick little spot! I'll get pics of both up, soon! What's next? New shoes for the Vibe!Stay tuned! Here's the tint....the vibe is quite dirty after the 1500+ miles over the Holidays from Northern VA to Bristol, TN to Kokomo, IN back to Northern VA!!!! XM photos are down the thread....

That's so awsome....tint all around. I used to think that XM radio was a crock...paying monthly for radio!!! But then I started listening to the radi here in Miichigan instead of cds...the radio here plays THE CRAPPIEST MUSIC EVER!!!! I went to Captiva island floridalats may found a station that played nothing but classic rock....ledzep, scorpions, whitesnake....NO COMMERCIALS either...I dont think I hear da single rap song either! Here in michigan all they play is rap, r&b, and crappy alternative...101.1 plays like 2 great rock song s then 532587520 minutes of commercials, 106.7 used to play good music but now they are alternative, and then 94.7 sometimes play good rock, but the majority is old rock that ive never heard of before lol.

It came with the install kit. It' actually made as a dash insert. I trimmed it down on both sides for it to fit. And there you have it!

That looks really good! Where did you get it installed and how much was it for the XM unit and installation?

The unit was about $125 I believe at Best Buy. They also did the install, but it's the only product that isn't a free installation when you buy it from them! It was $75 for the install. But WELL worth it! I'm an XM believer, now! It's great! The XM Commander is the newest receiver out for car installation. You can set 15 songs that you hear into memory. Whenever they're playing, the unit beeps and let's you know one of your favorites is playing! It can also store 30 preset channels! It has made all the difference in the world, when it comes to my wife and I fighting over cd selection! We now can listen to a channel that we both really like!

I like the spot where you put the receiver, out of sight and the driver is the ONLY one who can touch it. Great Job

Great install. I love that you found a good use for that compartment. Does the XM play through your Vibe's original head unit, amp and speakers? Is it chosen as AUX or recognized as anothe choice (CD/AM-FM/XM)? I'm not really interested in XM, but would love to know how to run DVD audio or MP3 from an Ipod or similar player through the stock unit as AUX.KSNeptune

It's done through the existing antenna. You decide which station it's tuned through (87.7 on my mine) and tune in that way. The sound quality is still top notch.

Nice Install!!!I have a 2003 Vibe GT - same color as yours. I have replaced the speakers in the front and back doors and added a Bazoka subwoofer in the back and some soundpoofing.I just got back from Circuit City with the XM Commander in hand. I'm planning on doing the install on Saturday. I checked out your pics and that's what sold me on the Commander. That and the fact that everything I needed was in one box for a lot less than all the stuff I needed for Delphi. I have the CD with no cassette, so paying 70 bucks for the vehicle kit, only to throw away everthing but the mount, then another 50 for the modulator, and 100 bucks for the receiver without a remote seemed ludicrous. I don't plan on bringing XM into the house, as I have digital cable with digital music channels and some serious surround sound equipment in two rooms, so no need for it there. So now I need to know a few things about your XM Commander install, and I would appreciate your help!Did you permanently mount the head unit in the drop down drawer, or is it just jammed in there real good?Where did the install tech put the tuner box and the modulator?Did you mount the antenna on the roof or inside? I live in Southeast Louisiana - just outside New Orleans, and it is flat as hell here, so no issues with mountains, hills, and the like. Thanks a million for your help!Dawg

It's me again - Dawg from South Louisiana. I realized I forgot to ask a couple of questions and decided to post again and correct spelling from the previous message.I have a 2003 Vibe GT - same color as yours. I have replaced the speakers in the front and back doors and added a Bazooka subwoofer in the back and some soundproofing.I just got back from Circuit City with the XM Commander in hand. I'm planning on doing the install on Saturday. I checked out your pics and that's what sold me on the Commander, so I checked stock at the CC stores near me, and took off to the closest one to grab it while they had it. Your pics and the fact that everything I needed was in one box for a lot less than all the stuff I needed for Delphi was what convinced me.I have the CD with no cassette, so paying 70 bucks for the Delphi vehicle kit, only to throw away everthing but the mount, then another 50 for the Delphi modulator, and 100 bucks for the Delphi receiver without a remote seemed ludicrous. I don't plan on bringing XM into the house, as I have digital cable with digital music channels and some serious surround sound equipment in two rooms, so no need for it there. So now I need to know a few things about your XM Commander install, and I would appreciate your help!Did you permanently mount the head unit in the drop down drawer, or is it just jammed in there real good? How much did you trim from the mounting flange? Did you trim only the sides or did you have to trim top and bottom? What did you use to trim?Where did the install tech put the tuner box and the modulator?Did you mount the antenna on the roof or inside? I live in Southeast Louisiana - just outside New Orleans, and it is flat as hell here, so no issues with mountains, hills, and the like.Does the remote work well from anywhere in the car with the install you have? Thanks a million for your help!Dawg
