Has anybody used Dynamat or similar products? What did you think? Is it worth going with brand names or are they all pretty much the same?I'm thinking on trying this to get rid of the annoying vibrations that the dealer says is normal..

Car: Two-tone Base Abyss, Moons and tunes, Power packageMods: 20% tint, Reflective Black GrafxWerks Overlays, German Hella Horns, Hardwired Valentine One, red interior dome lights, custom cargo floormat, police scanner, ham radio, cellphone kit and a bunch of antennas on topWishlist: Rubber floormats, million dollars
What are your plans as to the locations of the possible applications in the vehicle?I would definately add some behind the door panels in the dead space area.Wouldn't hurt elsewhere.

I have never used the stuff, but I have seen it in use before. Alot of people use this in car audio installations in every place possible in order to keep the sound IN the car... thus at the same time I am sure keeping the outside noise OUT. I don't have first-hand experience, but anyone else that has dealt with this can confirm.Check out this link for a Dynamat installation:http://www.projecttransam.com/projects10.asp

Here is a link to dynamat's homepage talking about soundproofing doors http://www.dynamat.com/auto_door.htm They also talk about blocking heat, which would be great for my Abyss.. it get really hot after sitting in the sun for a while.quote:Check out this link for a Dynamat installation:http://www.projecttransam.com/projects10.aspcool, great link. I had looked at crutchfields instructions but this is a real world example.

I have used it to keep the sound in but not really for the sound out. I think that it would work for what you are wanting though...I like the stuff...never used anything other than dynomax though so I can't tell you if any other brands are the same or not.
I noticed that the bass notes make the plastic door cover vibrate when my stock DVD-Nav CD player is turned up real loud. Other than adding bass reflex, maybe the padding would help.
Silver Base Vibe with Nav System that I wish had an OBD-II link

I'm sure I can shed some light on this topic.First Dynamat does work especially on low wattage speakers (doors) I've used it on my last car and I did notice the difference. Just make sure you have enough for what ever space you are trying to fill.Second your door speakers are "rattling" because there is a ring or bracket around the speaker the speaker it's self in order for the speaker 6 1/2" to fit in the front doors. Because of that the front speakers themselves sticks out about a inch or inch and a half from the door frame in which is "sandwiched" between the frame and the inner door cover. When the bass hits hard it almost touches the inner cover causing the rattling noise that you hear. At first you think it's the speaker but it's not. I know this because I replaced all 4 speakers and when they were installed I need the outer ring for a proper fit but when the bass hits it rattles the inner door cover. Even just pulling the inner cover out from the frame from the bottom of the door reduces the noise but the more you turn it up the more rattling you will begin to hear. What do you do???Well if you replaced the speakers then you can separate the ring from the speaker and "grind" it down a inch or two which will give it a better flush and keeping your door from rattling. If you still have factory speakers you should still be able to grind down the ring but you cant separate the speaker from it so be careful not to damage the speaker in the process. It makes a world of a difference.
