Has anyone had a larger profile installed on the stock 17" rim that comes with the 05 vibe? I like the rims, but would like something less susceptible to issues with potholes and possibly also less expensive to replace.Stock size is 215 50R17. is there a ??? 55R17 that works?
Since posting I found more information on wheels and tire sizes. It didn't occur to me that having ABS might be effected by different tire diameter. I only read one person referring that this might be a problem, and although it makes sense, I wonder if donut spares are the same diameter.I was thinking in general of clearance with fenders and body with a larger profile, but should also consider effects on other things, like ABS, cruise cntrl.
My only worry would be clearance when in turns. I think you'll be OK if you only bump up to 55 on the sidewall. I went to a 60, and love them, but I'm running the stock 16" alloys. What did you decide on after you found more info? Is the ABS going to be a problem?
The few people that have gone over the recommended 3% change (me included) have not reported any noticeable issues with ABS.I am running 3.1% larger than stock overall diameter on a Civic. My problem turned out to be clearance issues - because the car is lowered about 1.5". I already had the fenders rolled for clearance, but then we replaced a damaged fender with a new fender and the shop didn't roll it, now I have a gouged up tire.I was planning on going to 225/50-17 on my 2009, when the OEM 215/45-17's wear out. However, now with the Civic experience in mind and because I am lowered about 2" I just might back off that a bit - it would be 5% larger than stock and I don't want to make an expensive mistake.

The ABS issue should only come up if you have different sized tires on the car at the same time. As long as the sensors are reading the same number of rotations on all 4 tires, within their calculated tolerance, they are fine. FWIW, I'm looking into getting some of the 17x7 wheels for my son's Vibe, and I'm thinking about using my 245-45-17 tires from my Mustang on them, just because I have a set of them available. 245-40-17s would be a closer fit to the stock height, but I may see if I can add an inch in diameter with the tires I have. Might not work, but I will at least try it out. I can always go back with some lower series tires.Love the Miata tire size webpage;http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
