I bought a vehicle history report from Autocheck. And boy, has my Vibe had one interesting life.... Summary of the report is on the Genvibe FB page, and I'll put scans of the report in my garage.

I hadn't even thought to look for GenVibe on Facebook. I sent a join request. I don't really use the site and I go by a fake name to avoid people I know, but it would be fun to have something to look at beyond the scope of the forums. Also, congrats on the birthday, J. Does anyone know if they'll still look up that information for people? I'd love to print a birth certificate off to keep in my car.Edit: based on my visit to NUMMI.com, I'm going to assume that they're not doing this anymore. That was an unfortunate opportunity to have missed.

Cleaned up engine bay in prep for my yearly claybar & wax job. Amazing how just a little degreaser works. Engine bay looks awesome. This year will be the first time applying Refinish Restorer after a fresh wax job. Looking forward to it !!! I will also be restoring the headlights as well. Vibe will be spanking new....

I got my new rim delivered yesterday The tire should be in soon also then I'll have the shop mount & balance it, just in time for it to get stored in the attic. Winter tires are already on so this new rim won't see the road till April 2012. Hopefully I'll have a lot of other mods done by then also AND can highlight all of them at the 2012 GenVibe SuperMeet

I had some fun in the snow at a defensive driving course today. The sliding was a bit fun, while the drive home wasn't so much. I was ecstatic to put on my snow tires only to discover that, despite the fact that when they sold them to me they said that they were off the Caravan a vehicle with the same bolt pattern as the Vibe, they. Don't. Fit. There is nothing more out there for cheap, so... yeah.

Congrats on the new rim, Tim! Those are some of the sharpest rims I've ever seen; I wish they would fit my '03 GT. Truth be told, I'd much prefer the 18" rims from the newer Grand Prix GXP. Dang, those are phenomenal. There's just something great about a nice five spoke wheel.I spent today in the miserable drizzle trying to get some dried tape off of my window. The passenger side far rear window was covered in masking tape that had dried. It took some Goo Gone, a hair dryer, and more elbow grease than I had on hand to get it to come off. There's still a bunch left on there but I'm going to do it tomorrow, provided the weather improves. My whole upper body was getting fatigued from having to scrape stuff off from such a strange angle. My brother and I installed some speakers in my sister's Jeep Wrangler, as well. It is so much easier getting to those than getting to the Vibe's speakers, which I had thought were actually pretty easy to access. The mounting equipment was a pain to deal with, though. The sound didn't improve by a great deal (they were just a $30 set of Sony 4x6s from Walmart) but the other set had blown. It was nice to have made the system usable again but she definitely needs a small powered subwoofer in there to fill out the sound. My older brother has an 8" Bazooka tube that might do the trick nicely. On an unrelated note, Iowa did manage to beat Purdue (it may not be much but a win is a win)!

Spend Sunday replacing the intake manifold gasket. Hopefully that code does not come back, will have to wait for it to get below freezing to be sure. Sure sounds like its running great tho. While i had it apart I cleaned the manifold, throttle body, maf sensor, and filter.

Last night I bought a bottle of Black Magic matte finish plastic shiner and a big citrus scented air freshener/odor remover. I wanted to clean up my dash and try a more exciting scent. I'm happy with both products; now my car smells like an orange peel. The Black Magic is nice because it doesn't make everything feel greasy or look too shiny.Today I pulled my center console out to give it a good cleaning. The coin slot was caked in grime, as were the bolts at the front. There was also some greasy stuff at the bottom of one of the cup holders. It was also really nice being able to get all of the crud of off the entire brake lever assembly. I haven't put it back in yet but it should look pretty nice!My brother and I are going to La Crosse, WI. I'm going to Best Buy to demo some speakers, Auto Zone to get some Back to Black, and Hope Depot to get some rope caulk. If the weather is tolerable this week, I'd like to clean the exterior and use the Back to Black on the cladding. I want Refinish Restorer but the site seems to be unavailable. I can't find anywhere else selling it. I ordered a gallon of eDead v3 last night so I'm going to add some deadening to my doors. The rope caulk was recommended for making sure the speaker is adequately sealed to the door. It's removable and cheap; sounds good to me!My shifter cable bushings are out for delivery, as well, so I have that project to look forward to, as well! I've got lots of stuff going on with the Vibe this week.

I know what I'm going to do today...put my brush/ice scraper in the Vibe. I had a nice heavy coating of ice on the windshield when I went to leave work last night. Took quite a while to clean off, and I'm not one of those who drives away looking through a tiny hole. JR

Quote, originally posted by hotbug1776 »Genvibe super meet 2012? More info please!!! Well. It got noticed As one of the many who was bummed that we couldn't get a meet together in 2011 AND the fact that GenVibe will be celebrating TEN years on April 1, 2012 means that somehow, come hell or high water, we must get a meet planned for 2012. Lots of time to get ideas & locations/times, etc. but I for one need a good reason for a road triop and meet many of you GenVibers out there. The 2010 meet was nice for the 20-25 of us that were able to make it @ Indy. So summing up my comments about a GenVibe super meet 2012, it is only hypothetical for now BUT wanting it to be a reality SOOOOOOOOOOOO bad

I hate winter mode .Well, the weather ended up not cooperating like it was supposed to on Thursday (Thanksgiving), so I ended up waiting 'til yesterday (Friday) to switch over to our winter steelies. The weather was sunny and warm yesterday (I was in shorts and a t-shirt!), so I was actually able to roll the 18s outside and wash them with soap and water, instead of just wiping them down with detailing spray like I usually do. They are all cleaned up, aired up and tucked away for the winter. The steelies are hideous and I can't wait 'til I have the money to order some OEM 2009-2010 2.4L Base wheel covers to hide the ugly lug nuts and rusted hubs . But for now we'll have to deal with rocking the ghetto wheels (as my mom and I call them ).Unfortunately I didn't get around to detailing the Vibes because the weather is crappy today and is going to be crappy again tomorrow, so I figured it wouldn't be worth it. I am hoping to have a few more decent days before winter really kicks in so I can get them washed and waxed one more time.

Today, nothing. He is sitting in the driveway. But yestersday he needed his new inspection sticker, so on Black Friday we decided would be a good day to give him a much needed bath, before getting him inspected. We went to the locakl DIY. I cleaned the undercarriage, engine compartment and outside body, while Wendy cleaned the windows and interior hard surfaces. He got his new registration sticker, then inspected, then we went home and I pulled the mats which I beat much of the dirt out of, and then gave the interior a full blowing out w/the high-pressure air hose.Wendy got out the vacuum and vacuumed everything in sight.Today, this morning around 2AM, it poured and of course he sit outside (no garage, which sucks!!) But he looks so much better. This summer has been so hot, dry and dusty that even after cleaning the cars, they would look terrible in just a few days. Now it's the Mazdas turn... sooner or later. She's overdue too.

Today I finally got around to installing my shifter bushing cables. Surprisingly enough, they were easy enough to reach without having to remove anything. I have pretty big hands and arms so this came as quite a relief to me.The unfortunate thing was that the old bushing on the horizontal shifter arm (the left/right motion) seems to have seized onto the pin with unbelievable might. There were five of us in the garage trying to dream up ways to get it to come loose. It still hasn't come off. The rubber part is separating from the inner piece so I had to give up. I'd hate to rip that off because then I'd never be able to get the middle brass (I assume it's brass) piece off of the pin. As it sits right now, I reseated the old bushing and put the cotter pin back in to hold the assembly together. One of them is installed and I can feel a difference. While I really want to get the other one off, and I haven't given up yet, the improvement was worth the low cost (under $15). Had I spent the $30 for the Speed Source kind, I think I'd be much more upset about the ordeal. If anyone has any suggestions for getting the old bushing off, I'd love to hear them.I also started prepping the front doors for deadening and did a thin initial coat of eDead v3. It was finally delivered so I was anxious to get started. It was actually pretty nice in the garage but a warmer day would have been nicer. It was pretty thick but was still easy to apply. I've got the Vibe in the garage with the doors open and the battery unhooked so that the base coats can dry.I also cut the roof flashing to fit the size of the big holes in the door and added some deadening to one side of them. Once one side is done, I'll apply some to the other side to avoid any resonance. They're pretty thin (and easy to work with) so I want to get them thoroughly deadened before mounting them and finishing up with this project. So far, I've spent about 6 hours out in the garage and I'm feeling pretty accomplished. I'll put on another coat of v3 before I go to bed and do another in the morning. Hopefully by Monday morning, things will be dry enough to reassemble the doors. And, as if I haven't rambled on enough, I'll add that I spent a great deal of time last night looking at component systems and amps to replace my front db651s sets. I've narrowed it down to a few different sets. I'd love to try the Elemental Design e9.65i but the mounting depth is a hair over 3" and that seems like quite an unlikely fit. The reviews that I've read have praised their midbass capabilities, which is a very pleasing quality. Hopefully, between the deadening and sealing the big holes in the doors, the other speaker options I've considered will have sufficient midbass to satisfy. From what I've heard, closing off the holes does a lot for improving the sound quality so I may be in luck. We'll see, though!

Replaced the dome & hatch courtesy light with some white LEDs from ebay. WOW.....now I can see ! I was done with work at 12:30am and they light up the entire interior.I also removed the lense cover and used some plastx on it. It had slight film on it. Feels like a brand new peice of plastic now. Still waiting for the map / sunroof LED. I love functional mods LOL.

Nice, you should post some night pics of the LEDS. KITT222 posted some of his car in a dark garage and the dome lights were really bright. I ordered three LED kits (they were under $2 a piece) to do my domes. I really want to do the map lights, too, since they're so dim. I don't know if the kit includes the necessary adapter. If it does, I'm going to be upset that I only bought 3 of the LEDs. Having 4 of them would be much nicer.

I filled up the Vibe with some premium before heading back to Cedar Falls for class this morning. It turned out to be a pretty productive Thanksgiving break. I still haven't gotten the old shifter cable bushing off so I haven't gotten to swap it out for the brass piece. Shifting is great, though, even with only one of them replaced.I also took some time to finish up researching different component sets for the front stage. I finally pulled the trigger on the Image Dynamics CTX65CS set. They go for $160 on most online retailers but I made an offer to SonicElectronix and got them for $140 shipped. I probably good have gotten them for a bit lower but I'm still happy with the price. With any luck, they'll arrive by Friday so I can do the install over the weekend.Between the new components that are en route and the light deadening that I did over the weekend, I think I'm in for a treat. I also have to go to Menards and grab some more rope caulk so I can seal off the big holes in the doors. It sounds like that procedure will make a difference in midbass performance so I'm looking forward to trying it out. I cut the roof flashing to size and added some coats of eDead v3 to both sides. Now that they're both dry, I can contemplate mounting methods. I'll start by using a border of rope caulk but, if the difference is noticeable, I may eventually screw them through the door skin. I hate drilling my doors so hopefully the rope caulk provides good enough adhesion.

On the left tire, do you see the rectangular shape made up of several small grouped squared together. Its on the bottom left hand side of the tire in this picture. Does anyone know what these are? Do they serve a purpose, because, on one of mine, they are gone. I don't know how, but they are.

I would have to classify them reverse-whitewalls since they begin at the tread not the wheel. Would you say those are narrow or WWW?? Heyyyy... don't pick on the guy. I feel for him and glad as heck we don't see much of that stuff down here....... BUT... That said, we are making a pilgrimage to Pa. next week where we hope to avoid any such nonsense. Snow!!

'Ever tried that?
