Hi everyone, new to the Forum! So much great info already. I was wondering if anyone has installed speakers (I've got a set of 6 X 9 Pioneers) in the rear hatch door? Is there room? If so, how did you do it and do you have pics? If that doesn't work, I'm considering building a couple custom boxes for them to sit flush, on the sides of the rear cargo area. Mainly, I'm looking to keep my cargo area open and access to the spare tire area usable. I will be replacing my stock, front door speakers. The stock rear door speakers rattle the panel pretty bad so I may bypass them to go directly to the 6 X 9's instead. I'm not sure if it's the panel that is rattling or if maybe it's the speaker itself? Oh, I will probably 'sound deaden' the front door panels (with RAAMAT and ensolite) for sure and possibly the back door if I decide to replace those.I've seen a few great posts on here about adding a sub to the spare tire well. I may do that at a later date if the 6 X 9's don't have enough bass for me. I've been searching for posts on the speaker hatch install but haven't had any luck except mention of it. Any info is much appreciated!!! Thanks.
Welcome to the forum! Enjoy your stay and be sure to post pictures.I do not believe anyone has done it, but just be wary of the gas struts in the hatch, and if they can do their work with the extra weight. I don't see how this could be too difficult. You may need a small amp to power them. You can run the wires through the ceiling and the rubber boot at the top of the hatch. I've been behind that plastic panel, and there is plenty of space back there. I know we have to audio experts, such as audiovibe, so hopefully they'll see this and provide their input. If done properly, this could look pretty nice!
IMO go straight to a woofer instal in the hatch floor! There would be enough room but you would have to remove the factory spare tire cover or mount them to the little cubbie at the front of the hatch. make a new top piece and you would be good. I would just go straight to a sub though, the 6x9s will in no way shape or form produce the lower frequencies that you will get from a sub, and if you are replacing the front speakers anyway there would be no need for the 6x9s in the back.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style
Ok, thanks for the info KITT and AUDIO. I will do some more checking about the 6 X 9 rear hatch install but agree with Audio. I should probably just go with a sub. BTW - I looked through a bunch of your install posts and they all look awesome. Nice work!! I really liked the tire well install (I think that was your first sub install??) so the sub is hidden. I may try that with a shallow sub. Do you have more pics of that install? Some of the threads the pics were not showing up. Again, thanks for the replies! Oh, I will post pics once I get started.
