Confused about Glovebox installation

Post by flyboyron »

We took my wife's 04 Vibe to a mechanic to have something to do with the A/C Heater control relay replaced in the dash. When we got the car back the glove box was cocked and jambed. We got it open and found that it had not been installed correctly. On the right side is a little shock absorber to allow the box to open slowly. This piece has two holes in it and should attach to something. I have looked and looked and there is nothing for this to attach to.I am thinking there are more parts missing than just the two screws or bolts.Any idea what could be missing?

This is what it should look like when it is correctly installed (well the screw should be completely screwed in, but you get the idea). Without a photo of your's I'm not sure I understand what you are seeing. Hopefully this photo helps.

The damper screws on to the glovebox, but does not screw on to the frame of the opening, there's a small piece of plastic integral to the glovebox frame that the damper. Here's a picture of the area, shows the damper snapped on to the frame in the upper right (shows which hole to use), the center shows the area where the damper mounts, the bottom right shows a close up of the piece that the damper snaps on to.

Ok, Thanks.I was wondering about that tab on the side of the dash opening last night and thought something must snap on to it.The pictures were a great help.I can have that fixed in no time. Thanks again.
