There's been a lot of discussion on the supercharger, Probably the best bet to find lots on the supercharger would be to use the forum search feature, a link in the upper right. There's also an article on the supercharger, link on the home page is http://www.genvibe.com/html/features/sc ... ive1.shtml
From talking to Vibe owners base 5sp/GT/AWD/base auto. I also talked to people who drove the supercharged vibe. Those people believe that the GT is faster especially at the low end. The supercharger may be quicker at passing speeds. The opinion is that the GT is what they would prefer. They all said that the supercharger was very nice to drive and it was a nice feature and ran quiet. For all of those people that are putting CAI and other mods on their vehicles, I would like to suggest the surpercharger. Yes it will be and expensive adventure but horsepower will always cost you money. That money that you have been saving on insurance should pay for it.
Just here to lend a hand to people who have questions about their Vibe.
I am uncommitted on the SC for my base 5 speed. I want the power, but I need good gas mileage, which is why I bought the base instead of the GT. Some say a CAI will have a token efficiency effect. What kind of affect will the SC have on MPG?
Your MPG will go down to horrible. Because you have the extra power it will be fun to use it. The mpg will go down to less than 30mpg then it will go down even further because your foot and that part of your brain says "Yeah I can pass this guy too."

quote:your foot and that part of your brain says "Yeah I can pass this guy too."The rush will probably be more addictive than caffeine. That's why I do not intend to purchase a S/C at this time. I need to be mature here and stick with my "high effiency" setup. But if ya'll talk about CAI's much more I'm gonna be forced to part with 500 bucks! Why 500 you say? 250 for the CAI, 250 for the wife because of the CAI.Marriage - it's all good though!

Thanks, I knew about the second effect. I have that now after reading some of the posts on this site. I would love to have the extra power, but the rated MPG was an important reason I bought a Vibe. Been spending about $100 in fuel a month now, (less than half of what I was paying before I traded in a clunker for a vibe) That makes life easier, because now I can focus on maybe a CAI instead of waiting to see what the SC will be like. Still have to decide on whether the performance improvement is worth the purchase price, but it's a lot easier to justify a couple hundred than a couple grand. Just out of curiosity now, will a SC'd Vibe still take regular gas, or will it need a higher octane?
quote:S/C Vibe would need premium I believe. Engine with high compression ratio need premium. Adding a SC does not change the compression ratio, so the gas octane level should stay the same.
quote:Engine with high compression ratio need premium. Adding a SC does not change the compression ratio, so the gas octane level should stay the same.Incorrect. A S/C creates boost which means it forces in more air and fuel than could normally be pushed in by atmospheric pressure. That basically raises the compression ratio and requires higher octane fuel. This is also why the GT engine (with higher compression than the base engine) can't be safely supercharged without lowering the engines compression ratio.
OK, here's another one that I saw in an old thread but wasn't really answered. If you put a supercharger on a base Vibe, would there be any benefit to putting a CAI on also? Seems to me that the SC would pack the fuel/air, and the CAI wouldn't matter.
Yes, a CAI would help in 2 ways. First, a S/C heats up the air because it's being forced in. A CAI will help lower these temps because it will be getting in colder air to start instead of warm engine air. Second, the factory air box is a restriction while a CAI is not. This will allow the S/C to force in more air.
OK, now one last one, sorry if it's stupid, but just wondering, if the stock airbox is a restriction, and a CAI can give an increase in power and maybe even MPGs, why do car makers put the stock air box in instead of designing in something that's more like a CAI?Thanks for your patience. I'm taking Induction 101
Not a stupid question at all. Noise. A CAI is much louder than a factory air box. The reason the factory box is restrictive is all the intake noise silencers inside.
Well, I have been putting a little away each paycheck and should be able to grab the SC when it makes its debut. After that, I guess I wait for a CAI to be developed with the SC in mind. With both mods I should be around 180 HP at the flywheel. Not too shabby
Hold on just a minute - are you saying (Pwarren4) that you know where to buy a wife for $250? Or are you saying you can buy your wife off for $250. Either way, you're getting off cheap...nyuk, nyuk

I dont know why they dont do something extra with the GT model. Pontiac is going to miss the boat! The vw golf, and the mits evo come turboed, and dropped with custom wheels! weres pontiac? Dont get me wrong I love my vibe, it runs great, even with 23102 miles on the car! But people want the look and the power!!!!!!

I agree with having better gas mileage. The wife has to drive about 25 miles one way to work. It was either buy a Vibe or a Mini Cooper. If the Vibe did not have good gas mileage then it would have been put out the door. Plus the interior size of the vehicle was the deciding factor. We had to go with the 17" to help out with the handling. The Mini out performed the Vibe but not by much. I did enjoy the Mini but I am a torque freek. The Mini goes fast but I could not feel the acceleration. Made a whole lot of noise but I did not feel a thing. I love my muscle cars for that exact reason.BTW the planned price to have an S/C installed is around $3500.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but Blitz-na has developed a supercharger for the celica gt-s with the 2zz engine. There are a couple articles about it and it seems to work very well. They also have a supercharger (compressor) listed for the Matrix 2zz, which has yet to be priced. Here are the articles if you want to check it out: http://www.importtuner.com/tech/0212it_ ... celica/the blitz website is: http://www.blitz-na.com
