I Backed into a trailer. $880. Please help

Post by DjGodspeed89 »

So as I said i backed into a mini trailer too low to see. It was my fault so i didnt report it. ( of course zero damage to the trailer so the owner says "its ok!" although im obviously not). I have already ordered a new taillight. ( offering the shattered one to Psycho Marter if he still wants it, HOLLA!) What is my CHEAPEST option? Body shop says it HAS to be replaced because plastic is too hard to stretch back. Buy an unpainted one and get it painted and install it my self? Heat the bumper and mold it back? (although it wouldnt look perfect, and then have that painted over?) I feel like my whole car is ruined so support on getting me back in shape would be forever thanked...

Because it is plastic, theoretically you could heat it up and mold it back into shape. It wouldn't be perfect, like you said, but it would be cheaper.

Should be pretty straight forward. Start on one side and undo all the bolts until you're at the other side. I'm sure that there's a few inside the car as well. There's the manual that's in sublimewind's sig. There's another one around on this site somewhere as well... might take some digging...EDIT: This one's for the '03 but yours should be fairly similar http://madstyle1972.com/Repair...1.pdfHeat her up, pound and mold it back. Then hunt another one down at the wreckers... might even get lucky and happen across a black one!

Used for shrink wrapping and some hobby stuff (like mono-koting R/C aircraft).Heating and re-shaping should work. I did that for my mom's Toyota Camry and it only took about 30 minutes. Can hardly tell now. Wish I'd done before/after pics; it turned out great. Probably the only decent bodywork I've ever done.

Nicely done! It looks nearly perfect again! Maybe just a touch-up, and it'll look perfect again!

It was SO easy too. Not perfect, but not a dent either. I will take it to my school and have them paint it for cost of paint and $0 an hour labor lol.
