I'm curious if anyone else has had this happen to any car. My gf's neon was making grinding noises from the driver rear side when braking and the brakes just were not quite as strong. So it took off the drum, and the pads fell out. The metal back plates were still in place as you would normally expect, the pads just came apart from that piece. I don't know how old they were, judging by the thickness I would not have thought they were due for replacement either, still a lot left. So I did a rebuild on both sides, problem solved now. But has anyone ever heard of this happening? I also noticed they did not have recessed rivets holding them on like my new replacements did. Must have been some type of adhesive?
Yes I had them break apart. Not the entire pad but chunks from the edges. Are they orignal or replaced lately (last 1-2 years)?

I think I've had the car for two years so at last that long. And I suspected something crazy like this could have happened, I was expecting to crack it open and see a chunk lodged somewhere. But both fully intacted pads fell to the ground when I pulled the drum
Bad Glue or wasn't set up correctly. Did it do any damage to the drum or internals?

Typically the pads stay in place until disturbed. I actually had this happen at Monroe and they were able to re-glue them for me to get through the week. I didnt want to pay them when I could do the work myself for less than 1/2 the cost.
