I just wanted to post quickly that I got 4 new Goodyear Triple Tread tires last year - thanks for advice I found here, and they have been wonderful - I feel so much more safe driving in the winter now. I didn't get stuck anywhere, or slide into anything like I used to with the old tires. I am in St. Louis, and we get a few snows a year, and a fair amount of ice.Freezing rain today - hearing stories of people sliding down hills this morning - and I made it into work just fine - though no big hills. I still drive carefully but they are much better making it through snow and ice.Meg

Everything in life seems to be a trade off. The expense and bother of having two sets of tires may or may not be worth it depending on the person and the climate. In the late 70's to mid -80's I had a rear wheel drive Buick Estate Wagon - bought an extra set of tires/wheels for the rear. In retrospect not sure that was even necessary.
