Painting a Red Top battery?

Post by vibenvy »

I had Red Tops in both my Sunfires and loved them, so when the time comes for new batteries for the Vibes, they will be getting Red Tops as well. The only problem is I know the red won't look too good in our engine bays, so I was wondering if anyone has successfully painted a Red Top/Yellow Top battery (just the top colored part)? I was thinking since the top seems to be some type of plastic that Krylon Fusion should work pretty well. Opinions? Comments? Concerns? Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, they would be painted black.

the top probably comes off like most batteries. and it would be a plastic/rubber type.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the top doesn't come off on Optimas. I did some reading on a few other car forums via Google and found that quite a few people have had good results using an adhesion promoter followed by a high heat engine paint which is pretty much the method I was planning on using. It should still be a while before the Vibes need new batteries, but I am just wanting to research now so I can decide what I want to do before the time actually comes.
