Acceleration Problem

I realize that the 2009 and 2010 Vibe have been identified with the Toyota as having a sticky pedal problem, which they are taking care of. But I had a very serious event with my 2008 Vibe. Long story short, from a standstill, my car accelerated suddenly and climbed an 18" rock wall, I turned sharply to avoid a tree, during all this time (felt like 10 minutes, probably more like 5 seconds) I kept hitting the brakes to no avail. Finally it stopped just before running into a busy street. GM says pay $98 and take it to a dealer if we diagnose a problem we will take care of it, if not, tough. http://www.safercar.gov has two other complaints about the same thing with a 2008 Vibe. Now they have 3 with mine. Anyone else having the problem?

Second, did the car takeoff with your foot still on the brake pedal or did you move your foot?

I'm not discounting your experience. It may have happened just like you described. However the first thing to suspect in a case like this was your foot really on the brake pedal or the accelerator? It is a common mistake for someone to either hit the accelerator and brake at the same time or the accelerator alone thinking it is the brake pedal.It certainly would be a harrowing experience.BTW, welcome to the forum.
