Snow Tires for a 2009 Vibe GT

Post by KennedSR »

I just got my Vibe GT 2009 and I wanted to know for snow tires should I stick with the standard 18inch tires or if I should step down to a 17 or 16 inch tire size for the winter tires. Thanks!

Step down to 16" and save your 18's for summer. Here's what I have: Firestone Winterforce.

The standard 16 inch setup should be 205/55R16

Along with the 205/55/16, I found out that we need hub centric (OEM steel wheels). Multi fit do not fit properly. You have to source a set of OEM Camry steel wheels from your tire shop or Toyota, easy enough to find and not too expensive. The 09's have a different offset as well, previous gens are not compatible.

I don't have a GT so it was simply remove the all seasons and put on the winters. You could get 18" winters but your rims would pay the price and 18's cost a bit more then 16's.

Getting a good set of 18 inch winter tires will probably cost more than getting a good set of 16 inch and new steel wheels.

If you live near Rochester, NY there are a good looking set of altimax arctic snows on wheels for a vibe for $300.00 or B/O, there was another set w/o wheels for $300.00 or B/O and 1 is brand new!! I just bought a set of Nokian Nordman 4 snows brand new for $280.00 through work. I bought the 205/60R16, I am hoping they will fit ok and not rub on turns or over bumps, the tire wholesale guy says I can return 'em if I pull 'em off quick for the 205/55R16. I would rather have the taller tire for a little better snow handling and clearance but the snow tread may be thicker and rub more than I like on turns or hard bumps.
