Steelies (other than black?)

Post by overdriven »

I could use some opinions/suggestions, just in case this is ridiculous:My hubcaps are completely wrecked (thanks to the previous owner... mostly). I'm just going to paint the steelies and ditch the hubcaps until the tires wear out, and then get a tire+rim package. The car is an '03, Lava Red with the grey plastic cladding.I'm thinking of doing silver - a lot of "base-model" cars in europe have painted silver steelies, and I don't think it looks bad at all. Not a fan of black steelies at all. I've seen a Vibe around town with steelies painted to match the body colour, and I wasn't a fan of that either.Waddyathink?

Don't forget to paint the lug nuts, too!!!How about white w/ blue highlights? Something that looks cool while the rims turning!

If by "silver" you mean using aluminum paint? I'd have to say, fail. Many have tried and it never, EVER looks good. Avoid the chrome "look."If you mean a metallic silver gray, such as many steelies come w/OE, then I think it might look OK.Duplicolor has a number of wheel finish paints. According to them, they are designed to take the abuse (not that I firmly believe everything in advertising.) But some I know have had very good luck using them. Why not look into what they offer? And for the interim, you could always pick up a set of cheapie chrome lug nut too for about $20.

Why not just get some "new" OEM wheel covers? Check out car-part.com to see what junkyards around you have. Or you could get some cheap universal ones at Walmart, Auto Zone, eBay, etc.I just don't think steel wheels will look good in any other color besides black .
