Roof rack deletes

Post by kartrac3r »

After 2 1/2 years of waiting for the right one, I finally bought a vibe yesterday. It's been awhile since I have been on here and tried searching but can't find any links or posts for the roof rack deletes. Can anybody help out and point me in the right direction?

http://home.comcast.net/~sandk...s.htm Check out this link. A member here did this tutorial and it is amazingly good.

Thanks, thats what I was looking for. Wasn't there some sort or replacement rail that someone on here made also? Or maybe I just read that tutorial wrong. The way I read that the rail is gone but you still have the end caps on there?? I thought a member on here made a low profile replacement. Maybe not, it's been awhile. Thanks for the info!

I know that there are some caps that will cover where the rails should be. I believe they are made by R K Sports, and there are probably some others.

Quick question on this topic. Has anyone taken the roof racks off and left them off? The angle in the removal pics arent to great to show how the vibe will look if you just left everything off. I noticed of course the white clips and what looks like some left over dust of some sort in the groove where the rail used to be but is there anyway to clean that up and possibly cover the holes with some sort of low profile rubber or anything of that wort just to prevent leaking but keep the rails off. I personally dislike the rails. People say "hey it gives it a sporty look" but I want mine without the rails and we all know that the Rksports rails are just oh so very cheap they're pretty much giving those things away... Any help anyone?

If you don't put something where the rails are, there will be a piece of the roof missing. People would look at your car and think, "Hmmm...there is something missing. It looks like he ripped the top off the car."

Dang! 350 bucks? Thats my car payment plus insurance! Any cheaper alternatives? It really cleans up the looks though.

I just didn't know if taking them off would leave a smooth groove where they used to be, not a gaping one or one that would be that noticeable. Like I said, with no good side pics to base it off of and I'm not going to just take my off just to see how it looks, I didn't have much to go by.

i woun't advise just leaving them off. 1. looks like crap with them gone i drove around for 2 days when i powder coated my rails and the car looks unfinished without a rail or cap there. 2. holes from clips in roofThere were 2 different sets of roof caps if i remember right one was what looed like carbon fiber and another one bigger and required paint.3 powder coat the aluminum rail any color you want

Just throwing this out there, I never said I wanted to just take my racks off and leave them off. I was just wondering if there was any pics with them off from views other than that on the "how to take them off" page. I was looking for a better side view, and rear and front view. I didn't know if these pics were out there, I was just wanting to see if they were. I know better than to just leave them off, otherwise I would've done it already. i was just wondering what'd it look like and if these pics existed.

Found somewhere that sells the same rk sports roof rack replacements for $50 cheaper. Just figured I'd throw this in here. http://www.ilovebodykits.com/p....html

I cant beleive someone hasnt just made a roof rack delete cap that isnt so darn expensive. If someone just made it out of black plastic to match the rest of the moulding it would be so much cheaper. Why carbon fiber as the only option? No mystery why its so much. Just make it out freaking plastic!!!.....but then again, Pontiac wants about 60 bucks for a replacement black PLASTIC door handle....LOL

there is a cheaper alternative out there that is just platic that can be painted to color match your car or whatever color you want for that matter. I'll look later when I get back home but I don't have the time to dig right now but there is other options out there, just the carbon fiber to me looks the best and the look change to me is well worth $300
