A/C stop leak product?

Post by mntn-biker »

I have a leak in my a/c someplace. Early summer it wasn't very cold, 2 weeks later, it was not cold at all. I broke down and brought it to a local repair shop today and they had to recharge the system with some R134a that had some dye in it that they could check for leaks later with a uv light when I no longer have cold air again. Is a uv light like a "black light" light bulbI see at Autozone, they have Quest/Quick connect and can tap super seal. Anyone ever try using anything like this that may fix the leak? Leary of what it might do long term to my a/c system.

I bought a kit today that had 2 cans of R-134a (that contained the refrigerant, sealer, oil, and dye), the pressure gauge/filler, and a uv pen light. I checked around for leaks but did not see anything suspicious where hoses and pipes met fittings. I hooked up the gauge and it read 45psi (the instructions said to charge between 40 and 50psi for the current temperature I was checking). I'm questioning if I simply needed a re-charge or if I have a really slow leak. I will check it again next week but for now I have a/c that is pumping out air that is 25 degrees cooler than the outside air temp. Cool
