Intake Tube Rotten

Post by modieselguy »

Recently bought an 03 AWD and slowly fixing small problems from neglect over the past 130k miles. The flexible intake tube that runs below the battery rotted through from battery acid dripping on it. There was one post back in 2005 about the same issue but with a few more years of use I was wondering what people would do in this situation. GM does not have a supplier for the original part and from what I have read the s/c tube is hard to come by. This is my daily driver and not looking to mod the car but if someone has an awesome mod/idea I am all ears. Thanks in advance.

hmmmmm?? duct tape.when you say flexible tube underneath battery, I'm not entirely sure what you mean? If its the fresh air supply tube that goes to the air box, I really think it would fine to fix that with duct tape. but I think some other people should give more feedback on the matter as I don't know entirely which tube your talking about.

It is the fresh air supply hose for the air box. Here is the earlier post, http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=22299 .

ohh right, looks like burrpenick fixed his with a piece of PVC piping, probably held together by (you guessed it) duct tape. The PVC pipe should work great as long as you choose a pipe that's at least the same size or bigger than your original tubing. You wouldn't want to restrict your air flow by putting in a pipe that's too small.

Well I removed the pipe from the airbox that runs below the battery. The flexible part was rotten completely through. I cleaned up the battery tray area, installed a new battery hold down bracket, and gave it a test drive. The flexible part is held to the plastic tubes with staples, I will probably find a similar size hose, maybe a piece of carburetor pre-heat tube, and refasten in the same fashion.
