I want to announce that my radio power/volume knob just broke loose from the shaft. I went into the 2009 Vibe to close the windows. It is a hot day today at 94-100 degrees. I only remember that I very lightly touch the control and then I heard it crack. This shows that high tempenture may have cracked the plastic. BTW: In the morning when I opened the car windows, I did play with the radio (in the driveway) The control was okay then, But what I was checking was XMradio. XM E-mailed me to say that they reactivated my radio for free for the next two weeks to try to get me to renew. $20.00 for the next 4 months... $5.00/ month. Can I get a replacement knob from the Toyota? Thanks
I don't think you can get just the knob. Lots of folks (including myself) have had the volume knob/shaft come loose.... they replace the WHOLE radio. Hopefully you're still under warranty. Good luck.
I think this is something that happened to mine.. But its the tune knob.. It just really loose and spins without any type of resistance.. Though I cannot pull the knob off... :S.. It was just randomly like this one day.. I'm guessing maybe one of my friends hit it accidentally.. And I'm out of warranty.. So I guess Ill just deal with it.. Are you able to pull your knob off?
"It just really loose and spins without any type of resistance" That's exactly what happens to the volume knobs. Makes sense the tune knob would be the same. It's a well documented problem.... how loud can you *itch? The replacement radio is 900 bux.... might be tough to get resolution if not under warranty. Good luck.
Sounds like time to go with an aftermarket. I just bought a vibe and the knob was messed up as well. I had them fix it which required them to replace the entire head, before I bought it.
900 BUCKS!! !! Well.. if anyone has a problem with their tune knob you can also use the seek >> and << buttons to do the same function as twisting the knob.. for like changing bass, treb, balance, fade.. Luckily I have steering wheel controls.. so I guess if the volume knob breaks I'll just use it.. because.. I will NOT be paying 900 dollars for a replacement radio..

The 09/10 GT's came with the steering wheel controls and I honestly can't remember the last time I touched ANY of the knobs on the radio itself. Your 3yr/36k warranty SHOULD still be in place. Take it to the dealer for a FREE replacement
Is there a service or tech bulletin for this Broken Radio Knob defect?I will be going to my dealer next week. The service guy did not hear of any bulletins yet.thanks

I hate to have gotten your hopes up but it looks like I must have thrown it in the trash right before I moved to my new place. My bad. On the bright side as long as your car has less than 36k miles you should be able to get it fixed for free.

Well I wasn't asking to buy your radio, but I started this thread. I will be getting a new radio installed next week for free. I just think it's ashame that the dealer and 2009 Vibe owners has to go to such trouble over a $2.00 knob. The most used knob on the dash. This type of knob should of been made of aluminum. I hope they don't throw radios away because of a plastic knob. They should be refurbished for used replacement parts. Toyota/Pontiac should provide repair kits for $5.00 so that the dealer or the owner can fix simple things. When this knob breaks again, I will have to repair it with glue and I will!!

The same happened to me, today. My vibe is an 09 with 39,000 miles, what is the fix? Any suggestions? I don't think it was the heat here, but could be.Anyone know where I can get a new volume knob or radio/cd player if need be?I don't see any way to remove the faceplate, no screws are showing. How do you remove it without breaking it?Quote, originally posted by Ivibe »I want to announce that my radio power/volume knob just broke loose from the shaft. If you mean how to remove the radio faceplate, there are two screws on each side. It will seem like something else is holding it, but it just pulls straight off. You're fighting an internal plug/socket in the process. There is one small wire inside you'll have to remove to get it off completely.
