Vibe 2009 base radio, adding XML/Sirius. What are the options?

Post by toronto_user »

Hi guys,I have a question about adding XML/Sirius to 2009 base radio. Does 2009 base radio allow to plug XM/Sirius radio somewhere at the back (with special harness or without) and does it allow direct control of XM/Sirius addon directly from base radio controls? What are my options? What sat radio would you advise to buy: unit and subscription wise etc..., installation... ?Is it possible to replace base radio with stock Pontiac XM radio? If it is possible where can I buy stock XML radio? Could you please share the knowledge on this subject?Thank you.

Is there a difference between headunits for the base sound system and the premium sound? If not, you might be able to add a factory XM tuner. Edit: My car came with XM. Here are the part numbers on my headunit for future reference: Toyota part #86120-01250, Delphi part #28143548.

Thank you papacueball. I am going to check part number on my headunit. For now I know that it has 3 plugs: 2 of them are plugged with harness coming out of Vibe wiring. One is unplugged. In your car XM addon is a separate box, correct? How is it connected to main head unit: via special harness into one of 2 main connectors on the back or into 3rd one?Thank you

Your Vibe base radio DOES, or DID have XM radio capabilities. Attached is a scan of the actual catalog page showing EVERY Vibe built (regardless of trim level) came with XM radio. I would think it's as simple as making a phone call and then you're set. Unless Canada Vibes had different model configurations (I doubt). If you're not the original owner it's possible somebody removed the original radio and components. If so, you should be able to obtain an original "stock" radio and plug & play and be set. Lots of stock radios available on this forum form guys who updated their HU's if that is what you need. Good luck & hope this helps

Thank you tpollauf. In Canada XM radio was/is an option and unfortunately not a part of base radio (and it is shown on radio display as well when you push it). However base radio has CAT button which is assigned to XM radio. All i need (just an assumption at this point) is an XM radio module that can be plugged into base radio. I hope this will make CAT button work as it supposed to - start up XM module that is. Now the question is where to get that XM module for Vibe 2009 radio. Thanks again.

My '09 base came with the XM radio but other than the free period of time I haven't used it.I have had an XM Roady for over six years. I have a lifetime subscription. I would never pay for a subscription that can only be used in my car.I put the heavy duty Velcro type stuff that Radio Shack sells on the trim just under the radio. I then plug the radio into the 1/8" plug on the front of the radio. Does your radio have the plug? I think Pontiac calls it an MP3 connecter. It also requires a separate antenna and power cord. It isn't a pretty setup but I listen to my radio all day. I have a setup in my office, in my garage, in my house, and in my Ford van. All I do is carry the small (about the size of a cigarette pack) Roady in between. I don't think they have the Roady anymore. I bought the Express for my wife.
