check engine light due to CAI?

Post by mossaball »

i just put in an injen CAI. i drove it for a day no problems, and the next day the check engine light came on. Is this because i had to take off the mass air flow sensor? just wanna double check. because the vibe runs great as usual.-anthony

Check engine lights come on 90% of the time when something goofy happens with the emission sensors. It can start with the Mass Air Flow sensor, it could be a bad O2 sensor, or even something as dumb as a fuel cap not tightened all the way. If you go to an independent repair shop they can plug in a OBD2 scanner to see what code has tripped. Small independents should charge you $20 or less or even free, and some will even clear the code and if it comes back then you know what needs to be replaced. If its an O2 sensor, it will be covered under the 8 Year/ 80K mile federally mandated emission warranty. Provide you have less the 80,000 miles of course.

What JetBlack said is correct. I have a question though. Are you running the correct Injen intake for your application? The people that i know who have had CEL issues from their Injen are the ones trying to run an 03/04 model year intake on their 05+ drive by wire. Edit: Scratch that, the GT's are cable driven not DBW's sorry... Tip, you may want to check that the MAF and Breather hose made a good seal with the intake pipe.

But, you put it back in to the new cai correct?

I would try disconnecting the battery for 10 - 15 min & see if it clears itself before doing anything else.

i didnt put it back on because there is no place for it with the CAI. but from what i heard from some people is that the cel can go crazy when you mess with the emission stuff. im going to try to disconnect the battery tomorrow and then if all else fails take it in. i was just curious if this was common when a CAI or SRI are installed

Mine is caused by my Nismo cams which causes the car to idle between six and nine hundred rpm. I guess I need to get the ECU reflased again.I wouldn't think a CAI by itself would be enough to cause the check engine light to come on, but it could I guess. Do you have any other mods? You may want a Nissan dealer to check it out to make sure all is well. It could be caused by something else or your computer may need to be flashed. Thanks,Johnour ECU's on our PONTIAC/TOYOTA can't be reflashed. We don't have a Nissan. You can only add on a piggy back engine control unit, greddy ect.Who ever says they can reflash your ecu on our PONTIAC/TOYOTA and charges you money for it is blowing smoke up, your you know what and stealing your money.
