Exhaust Resonator

Hi everyone, I no longer have my Vibe but had a question anyway. When I did have it I put a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on it and loved the sound. Did the 2006 Vibe have a resonator on the exhaust somewhere between the cat and the muffler? The reason I ask is because I'm bringing my Focus in to get a muffler and bigger pipe put on and am debating if I should get them to put a resonator in since the one that is at the back will get cut off when they put on the new pipe.

I'm pretty sure there is a resonator on the FWD between the cat and the muffler. I know the AWD has one there as well. I would highly recommend a resonator to avoid the dreaded Fart Can sound.

Thanks Bluecrush. Maybe instead of getting all new pipe run I'll just add a muffler and keep the stock resonator since the gains from adding a full exhaust on a 110 hp Ford 2.0 (SPI) engine is negligible at best anyway.

Actually you can get a decent amount of power gain from a (P code) SPI Focus exhaust. I would spend a couple extra bucks for a 60 Series Flowmaster. From experience on the Dyno the Flowmasters usually show a couple ponies more than so called straight through glass packed "performance " muffler given the same size inlet and outlet dia. Another side benefit I've noticed with a (3 code) Zetec Focus was a 3-4mpg (US gal) increase in fuel economy and faster throttle response. Sound wise the Flowmasters have a deeper tone than any other muffer I've used to create an exhaust system. To answer your original question yes your car has an OE resonator. Your choice of Aftermarket resonators will make a big difference in the power gains you will see. I would go with a chambers resonator if possible for max exhaust gas velocity and temperature drop which equals greater high frequency sound and backpressure reductions over a straight through glasspack design. A product I really like is the Moroso Spiral Flow Mufflers if increasing the dia. of the pipe to 2.5" OD. If sticking to a 2.0" or 2.25" system the I would consider using Car Chemistry CCinsert disks in the in the pipe it self as the resonator for max power gains and and a nice deep tone that won't drive you crazy.
