Post by Cougar Vibe »

Story from TTAC...and it's all speculation, so take it for what it is.http://www.thetruthaboutcars.c...prius/That said, you guys at NUMMI build great cars...I hope you get to continue doing so, even if it's not the Vibe.

Did you get those annoying GM pop-up ads when reading that article?I think GM would benefit from a Prius twin but why would Toyota want to let them have that? But then while that might not be the best for Toyota in the short run, in the long run it might be very beneficial. US companies don't seem to consider the long run.

GM will not get the Pruis.....That is why GM has spent billions on the volt.Which is going to be a wayyyyyyy better car.

...if you truly believe that statement ("...which is going to be a wayyyyyyy better car ..."), we've got a LOT of ocean-front property here in Tucson, Arizona that you might ALSO be interested in buying (double entendre' intensional)!

I agree with Jake...IF I was considering a hybrid of any sort, I would be crazy to even contemplate the Volt. Why in the world would you take a chance with the first (and expensive) production run out of GM? They are not known for getting it right the first time. Or second, or ….

If toyota was sooo confident of the product they would not have cancelled all production at there new north american plant that never even opened its doors yet.as far as the vibe be such a great 1st product that rolled of there line...well i have car #495 i believe from there firts batch and can tell you that my old 99 z24 was just as good if not better in alot of areas as this vibe(as far as having problems).I truley do not see ANYTHING as far as toyota that is any better the the new GM's(2005 and up)So I think I will keep my $$ in north america and get some of our boys and girls back to work.

The last sentence of that story is so true: "Given the state of the auto industry, anything’s possible now.". The timing may be coincidental, but the Prius rumor coming back one day followed by the confirmation of the end of production in August of the Vibe the next day seems to suggest something may be happening soon. Our current contract with the UAW expires early August. Upper management keeps reminding us that major reductions in cost structure - including wage and benefits needs to happen for the parent companies to consider bringing in another new model. There are different thoughts around NUMMI about what is or isn't going to happen. I'm not going to spread more rumors on here, but the different thoughts by members posted on here are similar to whats going on inside NUMMI now. Nobody knows for sure what is going to happen, but one thing a lot of us agree on, there won't be another major announcement until either a new contract with the UAW is ratified, or something else with respect to that happens.
