Dyno results

Post by THE VIBERATOR »

From a nifty little program on my buddie's itouch, he put my car to the test. In first gear is when i achieved my peak horsepower....121 to the wheels. It was my first look at the 4 speed's power ratings. In second gear it drops significantly and doesn't peak at a certain rpm like it did in first gear. It stays flat line, and so does 3rd gear. It was interesting to see the differences between an auto and a manual. From what he showed me on his dyno results (he owns an Integra LS 5 speed), 1st gear hit 120 hp, but he peaked in second gear at 140! The Integra 3rd gear is mediocre...it rises slightly in power. It was quite an experience I must say. I know that the vibe isnt really tuned to have power, its tuned for economy, but whats with the flat line power after 1st gear?

When you dyno a car you do it in one gear, generally 3rd or 4th depending on how much power your car is putting down. The itouch/iphone is just generating data based on its internal accelerometers. No matter what, your car should be making the same amount of power in every gear.

If that's the case, then i should be making 121 hp in every gear? I will have to do another run.

Every chassis dyno I've witnessed showed the wheel hp at 15-20% less (sometimes more) than engine or crank hp due to tranny/driveline losses. The Vibe's 130 crank hp would be 110 hp at best at the wheels.

That is true, but I have mods, and my engine is basically brand new. The program didn't lie, I peaked at 121 hp in first gear, which i think is very good for an automatic 1.8L It surprised me for sure...I make 1 more horsepower than a 5 speed integra's first gear! LOL

Which itouch/iphone app was it? 1 connects to odb2 and 1 just takes the gforces/gps stuff. I know they are "fairly" accurate but have to be secured to the car not just held. Was your friend holding it?I pushed my car once during break in too, meh though I needed to get the piston rings pushed a little

Piston pusher Yeah my friend was holding it against the car. I don't know what app it was but it displayed total horsepower and speed, and your quarter mile time.
