09 Vibe GT Fuel Question/Concern

Post by dopeman127 »

I bought the 2009 Vibe gt in august/08 and i noticed that the car does approximately 375 KM at most on a VERY full tank of gas.... I was just wondering if that is normal, or if there might be some ind of problem? Also i was just wondering, would it be better if i pumped Supreme over Regular?

that certainly doesn't sound normal...375km is like 233 miles according to my conversion skills...that is very low and sounds like the mpg is in the 17-18 range? how is your driving style and how many miles/km do you have on the car now? if you drive a lot of city stop and go you might get low mpg but not sure if it should be as low as what you are getting...this week was the worst i've gotten...i got almost 23 mpg because of the unusually heavy traffic we had recently...and just yesterday it took 2 hours to move 3 miles and i was watching my gas needle go down slowly lolas for which gas to use, just use what the car is recommended to use...regular. here's the thread on which gas to use http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=35729

I feel your pain.... I have an 09 Vibe FWD and the most I got so far was 402 km on a tank of gas, with the low fuel light on. Most of my km are highway, and according to the window sticker I should be getting close to 41 mpg. I'm currently getting about 23 Imperial mpg now that it's winter, and was getting 26 mpg before the cold weather hit. I have about 5500 km on the car now, and for whatever it's worth, the dealership is telling me that it can take up to 40,000 km for the car to break in. So, two years from now I'll give everybody an update, lol!If you find any good info on how to improve the mileage, post an update on this thread, please & thank-you!

The numbers reported by you and dopeman127 do sound low, but it would help to know more about the actual mpg figures (i.e. how many miles/km traveled and how many gallons did it take to refill the tank) as well as the driving conditions (how far per trip, speeds, traffic & lights, etc.). Especially in the winter the mileage can vary quite a bit as people let the car idle for longer periods to let it warm up and generally make shorter trips. BTW, idling in general is bad for fuel economy and also not good for the engine. Better to let it warm up by starting immediately but driving conservatively for the first few miles.I'll accept that some cars may still have a break-in period to get their optimum fuel economy, but 40000 km sounds ridiculous. My experience with 7 new cars over the last 30 years has been the opposite. Each of my cars got exactly the same number of mpg on the very first tank of gas as it did over 100000 miles later (although the two Vibes are only at 20 kmiles and 40 kmiles so far).

On the highway at 75 mph I get 29-29.5, 33-35 at 65 mph. I don't see any problem with those numbers. If you want to regularly kick it in the a$$, of course it's going to go down or a lot of city driving, even if done so judiciously.
