If you could buy one car today, with your own money (and maintance/insurance/etc) AND keep it for 10 years. You could only have ONE car.Which car would it be?I'm not asking which is the best car, or trouble free car. I'm interested in what YOU would want and keep for long term? And tell me why?TIA
2004 Vibe, Auto Trans. Built Sept 2003. Date in service May 2004. Sold May 2006.
I bought my 2008 Vibe with manual doors and windows precisely for the reason of keeping it 25 years or more. I put about 7500 miles a year on it, and that only comes to 187,500 miles.
Renate and "Babycakes"2008 Stealth/graphite VibeAuto tranny. 16" aluminum wheels,steering wheel cover,front seat covers,Sony stereo w/mp3 jack and satellite ready,Alarm system,proud parent of U.S.Marine magnet
I do keep my cars for 10+ years (unless they die before). Of course it would be my 04 Vibe, I am up to 120K miles with very few problems. Looking forward to driving it at least another 10 years. 82 Nissan 280Z--12 years then daughter drove 4 more years before having to sell (went overseas). 300+K MILES. Parts were expensive.90 Chev 1/2 ton extended cab---11 years only 70K miles, stollen twice ran into 3 times (2 were hit and run). Looked like new when I sold it, but it had a curse on it or something. No mechanical problems at all.95 Dodge Neon---9 years/ 300+K miles, water pump bearing went out causing the cam belt to come off completly destroying the "interference" engine. My fault, I should have replaced the water pump during the last timing belt replacement. Glad the Vibe has a timing chain.
Base Two Tone Satellite, Auto, & Pwr Pkg....my current commuting car.

At a couple hundred bucks each, plus another couple hundred for labor X 4 doors... There's no pain in the rear quite like going through the drive through or a parking ticket dispensing machine and having to OPEN the car door! Actually, there is another pain...putting a trash bag in the door frame
I'm keeping my Vibe 'til the end of time. Yup...December 22nd, 2012. I would choose the Vibe anyway...it was not that expensive, cheap to maintain, insurance is low, the AWD gets me to anywhere I need to go in any weather, the gas mileage is great, lots of cargo room, minor mods to get a little more power. I have loved owning and driving it every single day since I owned it. The Vibe has everything I need. What more could I ask for?

That's why I answered I'll keep my Vibe. It's versatile, reliable, economical to own. If I didn't already have one, I'd seriously consider buying one, because it is a car I can actually afford to buy and feed, it meets my needs, I can see keeping it for long time as the only car I'd own.If money wasn't a limiting factor, and if I could have several vehicles, then I'd probably also add a pickup of some sort. There are other cars I want, but can't see using them exclsively as the only car and a daily all season driver. Some of the answers so far make me wonder, if that's the car you are willing to buy, then why haven't you yet?but maybe I misunderstood the point of the thread.Agreed. I took it the same way. This is not a dream car thread. But a car that you can afford now, making all the payments, maintenance, insurance, etc.. and keep it for 10 years. which is why I chose my Vibe. I kept my '88 Cavalier for 13 years before selling it. It still ran good, too.

If paid for and I didn't have to do anything but drive it... Ferrari F40 LM GTE... I would never get rid of it.. biggest problem is I wouldn't want to put that many miles on it.. I mean I would.. but for resale and what not...if it was based on what I had to pay for, and up keep.. I really do enjoy my vibe... If I could afford it, I like the Lexus IS's I think they have some nice amenities and I could drive one for ten years... just not sure if I could afford it/insurance/upkeep.
