2006 Vibe 4cyl, Auto. Over the past two years the A/C has slowly blown warmer to the point were it is coming out of the vent at 58 degrees. So i have an A/C charge kit and decided to check the freon level. The gauge read on the low side. I followed the directions except I have found that by increasing the idle RPM it takes the freon faster and the system took one can. This brought the vent tempature down to 42 degrees. Which is awesome. The following day however the A/C didn't blow cold for about the first ten miles of my commute, but when it did finally blow cold it was great. Any ideas on the delay?
the freon does not get used up so there might be a tiny leak someplace. Might be worth keeping on eye on it. As for the delay if you insulate the large pipe in the engine bay (see A/C mod) this will help get the system cooler faster.
Insulating the low pressure hose will do nothing......I did an experiment a while back and proved it didn't work. Wish I could find the results I posted...guess they're gone for good. The large hose (cold hose) is the line that is leaving the passenger compartment - not going to it and quickly reheats when compressed. There was a post once about the heat control door not fully closing.....might check that, it may have slipped out of adjustment.

Thanks joat for finding my thread. I thought 'search' searched all forums, sorry. Doesn't the refrigerant come out of the compressor very hot, then is cooled some by the condenser in front of the radiator, then gets really cold as it rapidly expands at/in the evaporator, which is in the passenger compartment?
you're right, I had it backwards, so I deleted my bad info. Thanks for keeping me honest seach will search all forums unless you tell it different. I searched for all posts by you that had the term 'insul*'
