ebay ads for cheap chips. What's the deal?

Post by 69cars4me »

Just saw ads on ebay for computer chips that add 60+ hp and ft/lbs torque for only $8 or $9 dollars. Anyone taken the bait on one yet to see what their all about?

All it is, is a resistor that goes inline between the IAT sensor and ECU. It fools your computer into thinking the intake air temp is lower than normal, increasing fuel and timing. It will add HP in most cases, but only about 5-10hp at the most. Truth is, you can go to Radio Shack and but a 4.7K ohm (I think) 5 pack of resistors for $0.50 and do the same thing

What's the downside to the resistor add-on? Any other problems occur when you start messing with the timing, ie: emmissions errors?

It will kill your mileage, and there is a small chance you could run into some detonation and end up doing engine damage. Its just the wrong way to get HP

Why spend 50 cents at autozone when you can tighten your throttle cable for free? (removed) only for those of us with DBC of course

None. Vibe is gone.
