Taboo question...

Post by sufan »

I am a smoker. It is a terrible habit.Anyway, when I got my 2008 Vibe, it did not include the lighter and ashtray and was thrown in as part of the deal. The dealer did not have it in stock and ordered it for me and delivered it to me last night. The ashtray is a cup with a lid that fits in the first cup holder. No problem! However the two parts of the lighter, does not fit into the opening.Does anyone know about whether the existing insert in the opening has to be removed, so that the lighter fits in the opening? Or is it something I should just bring to the dealer to put in?Thanks.Regards, Jay

I smoke too Anyways,I think you'll have to remove the insert that's already in there so the new socket will fit. You'll have to pop the cover off to get at it.

I was a smoker, but never lit up in my Matrix ever. My fiance and me both smoked in our last cars her Cabrio and my Civic. I stopped before I sold it for two months and cleaned it out hardcore. We would just pull over in her 05 Liberty and my Trix if we needed one. Keeps the car clean and you from smelling like smoke all the time.

You'll need a whole new lighter socket, those w/o the smokers package have an "accessory power outlet" that doesn't accept a lighter element. The "lighter" and APO type sockets are internally different.Shouldn't be that expensive for the lighter socket and not too difficult to change out.

CP is right here. If they "threw" it in for free - let the dealership know that it doesn't work. They may change the socket for free. Worst case, you have to buy the socket, which is right where you may be at right now.
