Kumho Ecsta ASX on the way!

Just clicked the order now from DTD. It was $358 out the door with the hazard and stems. My local place is gonna balance and put them on for me, usually only costs like $20 or something like that. These RS-A's are getting loud and squeal around corners, even broke loose in the rain last night on an off ramp at only 40mph on the curve. Luckily I kept the deep tread ones on the back so when the AWD kicked in the car got right back on path. Did I mention I love my AWD, haha.Anyways, The brakes cannot even keep up with these Goodyears as they skip and stutter as well. So once the Kumho's are on next week I'll have plenty to say, should be a quieter smoother ride as well.

Very cool... i want to know what you think after a week and a month with them... I would have suggested the SPT, but you were prolly going fo the all-seasion capibility.. (i'd just run summers and winters if i were you, but i'm not...)

Kuhmo are pretty good tires.I have Kumho's on the vibe,I forget what model Ecsta's,they handle very well.They stick to the pavement when wet and stick to the road when dry,I really like them and the price was right.But,I had a set of 711's on the sunfire,they were great in dry but suck big time in wet.

I have the supra 712's on the Vibe as my summer tire.Awesome tire,all around,I forgot the model before.But,the 711's suck in wet weather.

Running Kumho's on my Vibe as well... don't remember the model no. but they stick to the dry road and suck in wet weather. I like them a lot and recommend them all the time for a good summer tire.

For sure let us know what you think of them after you ride awhile. I know the dealers are pushing the Ecstas, but some GenVibe members have gotten the Solus and give good reviews. What's the difference and why choose one over the other?

The Ecstas cover a range running from the highest performance tire in the company down to the mid "Grand Touring" lines then it turns from Ecsta to Solus... The Ecsta Supera 712 is what i had, the SPT is the replacement IIRC...

The 712's rock.I have nothing but good things to say about them.Can't beat the price for the quality of tire.I really like the wet weather performance.Maybe I should get sponsored by them,wuhoo.

Yes they do, it's to bad the only fitments they have left are 18" and up and really wide...

The SPT has a more V-tread design but according to Tirerack, the ASX is a higher performance tire. I've never owned a set of Kumho's, I almost bought the 712's on my Civic but went with Falken 512s instead. Good tire, but very soft sidewall.I hope this takes care of the shakes my wheel gets at 80mph. These goodyears suck suck suck.

I've been using the Kumho ASX tires for the past few years and have been very happy with them. I'm on my third set and they have been lasting me about 25k miles each roughly I think. I've been buying mine from Tirerack.com for $80-90/each and they are always delivered the next day with standard shipping. That sure was nice when I had an unrepairable flat a couple years ago. The tires are smooth, quiet, provide great traction, and I even use them in the snow during our winters here in the DC area. Fortunately we haven't had much snow and I wouldn't recommend them for snow further north, but for the mild amounts we get, they have worked fine. Then of course they are quite the deal, some of the cheapest 18" tires around, but also have some of the very best reviews on tirerack.com as well. Definitely highly recommended.

You definitely got a good deal. I'll have to check out DTD next time. Is your AWD lowered? I'm sure the AWD does help a lot in the snow. I have yet to get stuck, but driving through the snow, then looking at my wheel wells, they are packed with snow all around. I have the Tein S-techs, so I have to be careful to avoid deeper snow or piles since it'll just plow into them.

If I had the budget I would get summer/winter tires. I do plenty of snow/weather driving which is why I wish the AWD was available in the 5spd. Typically I drive around in 2 in snow that way if I get up to 25-30 and need to slow down I can let off the gas, the gearing slows me down and if the fronts slip on the slow down the rear will engage to keep traction. I had to teach my fience how to drive her Jeep in the snow since its RWD. When engaged I had to explain to her to give it power through the turns instead of a FWD where you downshift and or cruise around a corner with no throttle. Cause the AWD is pulling or pushing you through the turn.

My first set of AM tires were Kuhmo Ecsta ASX and I loved the handling, but didn't realize they would wear so fast (got 31K on them). I know that's above average for those tires, but it was still a bit of a shock.

i currently have them on mine, and during the winter time we had some huge slush problems on the roads, about 3in. deep and there were accidents at every corner, i worked 13 hours that day delivering and never once did i feel scared or loose control. i would purposely hit the gas harder and slide out to see how it controlled and most of the time it would clear through the slush and i would move like nothing happenedbtw they wear very quickly, after 10k miles u wonder if they will last much longer, but its been about 20k and i think i have another month on them

Over a summer 400$ for a set of winter tires AND wheels, can't be "that" hard to save up for....can it...? They'll last over 3-4 winters depending on the amount of dry pavement driving you do each seasion..How much do you value you and yours, safety? Is there a price that can be put on that? (yes, i'm doggin ya's...lol)

Or are your very hard on tires?Understand that "performance" tires are much softer than your regular all-season, even though the ASX is considered an all-season, it's more of a performance tire than it is an all-season. You gotta pay to play, as they say, if you want true performance, you NEED to not fret about tread life... In the big picture, tires are cheap...

I'm more into comfort, long life and MPGs. Like you, I think handling and safety is important. But, I also want something that is quiet and can handle the wet weather we get here. All-season tires are fine for the mild weather we get in Florida.Would you say the Solus is more suited to me than the Ecsta then? I got a set of Kumho Solus KH16's mounted up today..........(removed), what a difference over the egg shaped Goodyears!!!!!

Ok, will do, as soon as my camera gets back from Chicago. This is the same tire I had put on the Princess Vibe, before it got totalled. She had put about 15K miles on them, and the back 2 were still at full tread when the car got totalled, the front 2 were torn off. I had no way to grab the back 2 at the time, or I would have.

awesome they came in today, I must say the tread pattern on them is fairly sporty looking. Although not a V-tread, it has plenty of style, I will be putting them on Monday. P.S. - DTD ftw, ordered Thursday, delivered Monday morning! Closest location to me was in Ohio,

An update.Today they got their first big water test. We had torrential rain in the NE today and there were huge puddles all over the highways and roads.Hitting one at 50mph did nothing. It slowed the car a bit, but at no time was there any swerving, veering or steering wheel skip. The AWD did kick in once or twice on corners, but the tires gripped and the car went right around. Once again still a fantastic tire!
