Infant car seat safety rating - "MUST READ!!!"

Post by mcgusto82 »

http://www.consumerreports.org...v.htmAbove link will take you to a consumer reports page where they crash test infant car seats. You have to read this. I know i have a "bad" opinion of CR, but that only goes for their car ratings. Either way, if you have an infant, you must read this.

NHTSA forces CONSUMERS UNION to retract outrageous car seat ratings!Quote »The Consumer Reports tests, meant to simulate side-impact collisions at 38 miles per hour, were actually conducted in excess of 70 mph, twice as fast as the group claimed, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced in a January 18 press release. Link to full article --> http://www.businessandmedia.or....aspxThis is probably a topic for Political Asylum, but it raises the question of how many OTHER Consumer Reports tests were 'outsourced' and/or results forged over the years???

I bet if Honda or Toyota made car seats, by golly they'd meet Consumer Reports standards! The stupid media can then say "Let's bring little Johnny out here.... Consumer Reports says he'll survive a 300 MPH impact if you have him secured in this Toyotacarseat! He's gonna DIE if you have him in anything else! Little Johnny, you're gonna be ROADKILL if your parents are stupid and buy one of these other car seats and get into a crash at anything greater than 5 MPH!" IMHO, when it comes to a group like CR, their soul purpose isn't to watch out for the consumer - but more for media hype generation. Drama, drama, drama! That's what we need to help us make a more informed decision on what we buy! So much for the idea that Consumer Reports has questionable rating practices for automobiles but "I do listen to what they have to say about the OTHER products they test!" If I were the child seat manufacturers, I'd be suing those idiots about right now for the damage they have caused. This is just misleading. Funny, go read the link now that mcgusto posted above, they sure changed their tune, the original content go bye-bye! Quote, originally posted by con$umer report$ »NEW YORK (Jan. 18) -- Consumer Reports is withdrawing its recent report on infant car seats pending further tests of the performance of those seats in side-impact collisions.A new report will be published with any necessary revisions as soon as possible after the new tests are complete.
