Putting 15" Winter Tires instead of 16"

Post by nbwright »

I'm new to this site so forgive my "green" post...I've done a bit of looking around for the answer to my question but am still a little foggy on the concept of putting 15" tires on the Vibe rather than the 16" that it came with...I have a chance to buy a set of used (8000 km) winter tires c/w rims from an '03 Corolla for $200. This seems like a good deal to me...however, I think they are 15" wheels (finding out for sure tomorrow) and from what I've seen in this forum, it's okay to put these on my car.The parts guy at my local dealership said this wasn't a good idea, but I'm not sure if that was a legit concern or just pure marketing genius...What do I have to consider when switching out my 16s for 15s? The current size is 205/55/16s. Which 15" series could I get away with? Thanks in advance for your help!Nick

P205/60R15 or P195/65R15 would be good---- search it... lots of previous postsit is a fine idea, they fit and they are cheaper. Tell your parts guy to shove it.just use this link. it will help you keep the size close (closer the better)http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.htmlhave fun and welcome to the site

I had a set of 195/65R15's on steelies for my Vibe when I had it. They fit just fine, I liked the tires being a bit more "beefy" for lack of a better term than the 16's would have been. They did great.I tend to forget all about those tires... I bet dad is really wanting the space they occupy in his garage back now that I can't use these things. LOL!

Thanks for the advice! The tires are 195/65R15 Michelin Arctic Alpin so it looks like I'll go for it...BTW, nice avatar CAD-AWD-VIBE...bit of a Rider fan?Nick

Hi, The canadians are all running 195/65-15 on Corolla rims. Paid 63 $ for rims at Toyota dealer, plus a set of CTC Nordic Icetrack. 16 inch winter tires are $$$.Rémi
