i have an 05 vibe GT 6spd:when i hit the gas i feel it really kick in exactly at 7k rpms, ive herd from others its at 6k for them and i was wondering whats the easiest way to get that lowered. ive herd of systems like camcon and unichip, but ive never used one and i dont wanna put the money out until im sure i know what im working with
I think just getting a 2003 ECU from a GT will do that. I think they brought up the rpm for lift in 05 or 04....all i know is that the 03 ecu is a most wanted part for the newer ones to get more "lift" from it.
I'm always wondering how the GT's lost 16 HP from 03 to 06? More smog/fuel stuff? I think if I was to get a new Vibe now, I'd get a base and put the SC on it.

If your not going to use lift, why would you bother with blowing a GT instead of the cheaper lower compression base. It's easier to turbo and power is limited by the tranny to aroung 250HP anyway.

I know some of the reduced power in the 04+ GTs is associated with higher lift engagement points, but I thought the primary driver behind the Vibe losing HP was the more stringent regulations on how HP is determined (SAE shored up their rules and now only one method is determined)...I guess I'm wrong here...

DopeVibe...what I'm suggesting is that they didn't do anything to change the power output (other than a slight lift engagement adjustment). Rather, they simply standardized the method used for reporting power and as a result, some of the numbers are now lower.As for speed, I'd say that both the '03 GT and the '04 GT have the same profile so they are both drag limited to the same number...which one will get their quicker - maybe the '03, but the '04 may have less wear or a better driver. Bottom line, I believe asking if the '03 is faster than the '04 is like asking if the '06 Viper is faster than the '05 Viper - it's really the same car and 98 out of 100 won't notice if you are missing a couple of ponies...

Ok, just wondering. Just seems 16HP loss would be noticeable, but I do see what you're saying. Now, for keeping it in lift, can you do it with a 7K lift?I know with the '03 lift, it just stays in lift when changing gears.

I've never been able to maintain lift...the engine begs to drop in revs and I've never been able to keep it engaged...I don't know if having the short shifter makes a difference though...

DM is correct. The '04 differs from the '03 because of the emissions air pump. The '04-'05 difference is due to ratings standardization.Post edited:Thanks for the correction "DM"!
It is possible to stay in lift in the '03's. JustinVGT can attest for that as I took him for a ride in mine about a year and a half ago! AS for the drop in power, I would feel that it would be totally noticable. Any little bit in this weight of a car can be felt. The lift engage point set at 7k, I feel would be impossible to keep there from shift to shift. It's too bad Pontiac has let down our community performace wise. They jumped out of the gate well, but seem to be draggin their feet as of recently. I think the general market they were shooting for, didn't quite respond as they had hoped, excluding the peeps on this board!As for the durability and boosting potential of the 2ZZ, well, you're gonna have to do internal work to be able to push more air through. The weakest like by far on these motors is the oil gear. I don't recall anyone stepping up and building us a improved piece, as of January '06 at least. I searched high and low for an aftermarket piece during my rebuild. none to be found. MWR has everything else you need though, pistons, crank, rods, bearings, etc.

Rods, bearings etc are stronger and there's extra oil squirters for under the pistons. Cylinder walls are harder. Trannies on both is what limits power to below 275 hp.
