As some of you might already know (if you've been following some thread closely), I'm buying the Hass Turbo Kit. Actually, I already paid for half of it as a deposit and it should be ready to be picked up in a week or two. I will drive down in the States and visit Jay Hass's shop and feast my eyes on some Lotus Elise and the like...Of course, going F/I involve buying a few "stronger" parts to make sure your car stays as reliable as possible. Also going F/I without any gauges is like walking with your eyes closed. You just won't be able to monitor properly your engine's condition...So with some shopping to do (some is already done), I started to receive parts to install on the trix. Yesterday, I received the gauges that I ordered 2 weeks ago. I bought some Defi BF gauges with the control unit II to keep an eye on everything. I got the oil pressure, exhaust temperature (EGT) and the boost. A very nice feature with those is that you can program the control unit for a maximum value for each gauge you have plugged in so that if you surpass that max value, there's a beeper and a red light warning you of potential damage on your engine. So even if you don't have your eyes always on the gauges, you're kinda safe that way...Also with the added power, I will need a stronger clutch. So with that in mind, I bought (and received today) the RPS 6 puck clutch Sport Serie that can hold up to 300lb of torque. Really can't wait to install that one and see how it grips. Will keep you updated on "future arrivals" and also when the kit will be ready...For pics of my new toys (sorry for quality, had problem with the flash of my camera):http://photobucket.com/albums/...0toys/Enjoy
Funny that you mention the bedspread. The store I bought it from used it for a publicity in the magazine "Les idees de ma maison" or something like that...Oh well, to each their own ;-)Now back to the car...
Well Sam, just got an email from Keely today saying that the kit will be ready sometime next week so I guess you might have a ride within the next month Oh and BTW, the kit produced 292whp on Rio's trix. Not planning to make that much but I'd be happy with 260whp
260 whp on a 2zz is INSANE!i believe my LGT is sitting about that right now, awhp though. i lose A LOT of power in the crank unlike the FWD. oh well... still fun as hell!and we'll need to go for a ride!just booked tickets for TO 8/6-8/15. think we'll be heading your direction that thurs or Fri then head to TO Sun or Mon. I want to do some tourist stuff in TO like go to CN Towers and what not. so Sam, we HAVE to do a mini meet while we're in Montreal!
No problem there for the mini-meet, give us your definite dates and we'll work it up.As for the hp numbers, I know I will have traction problems... Will have to start saving for a LSD
Quote, originally posted by psycho »So how's the progress going? did you pick it up yet?Was supposed to pick it up yesterday but after seeing Rio's numbers last week I decided to go with the Hydra instead of the Emanage. So they had to order it...Hopefully next week!

Quote, originally posted by Thewhite »just tried a WRX today... hope I'll remember the ride to make a compareThere will be no comparison at all. I raced a few on the highway (barely never race in town) and he might gain a nose or at most a car lenght on me.A WRX on the dyno should be around 180whp (they lose more because of their powertrain 4wd)I'm at 169whp right now. Should be around 285whp after the installation.
i thought you said you weren't gonna push it that hard. lol. but as you said, we lose a lot at the crank due to the awd drivetrain. and you are talking STOCK wrx #'s there. it is very easy to add a few mods and that WRX is spitting out 300 awhp. i figure my LGT spits out somewhere b/w 240-260 awhp, so i guesstimate about 250 awhp. we lose about 22% at the crank, so that puts me about 300-310 hp..... and a helluva lot more torque! still, size and weight wise, the trix/vibe will definitely have the advantage, but when all is said and done, the rex will still overcome because it is built around and for a turbo... like i said, a few mods and that rex is killing the stock STI's. and let's not forget... it's AWD. lolhowever, that being said, a turbo's 2zz engine is a force to be reckoned with! it's a wolf in sheep's clothing and most definitely will do some major ego damage! lol

The thing here is that I don't think the WRX he tried had any mods at all, was probably stock. My comment was meant towards that, not towards a comparison with a WRX with a few 000$$$ of mods. Of course the "base" of the Rex with it's already "turbo and awd" powertrain is better to start but here in Montreal, modded cars are the exception, not the norm.Always difficult to start comparing with modded cars because you never know how much is done to the car. However "stock" trim is easier to compare to and again, my comment was meant against a stock one, not a potentially built to the max Rex!
I test drove it. it's a '03 that a coworker has. the only mod on it is a blowup valve... Ben, I know there's a lost a hp between the engine and the wheels, but it start at 227, so I'm surprise earing you saying it's about 180... WRX is the car of my dreams. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to put enough cash down on one when I came back from Bosnia in 2k2, so I bought my Vibe. The test drive just confirm what I was thinking: this car is made for me. Plus, it's a REAL awd, not a traction assist, a most in our winters.
he's talking about whp. and no, xrs06, i wasn't meaning to offend you. i think it's awesome you are doing what you are doing. you are going to blow the doors off the unsuspecting rexes! lol. are you going to put any crazy graphics on the car? i hope not. should make it a sleeper...
Quote, originally posted by Thewhite »Ben, I know there's a lost a hp between the engine and the wheels, but it start at 227, so I'm surprise earing you saying it's about 180...Like trdvibe noted, the awd loss for the powertrain is about 22%. If you take 227hp minus the 22% loss (50hp) equals 177 wheel horsepower or dyno horsepower. Those are the important figure, the power that is actually put to the ground. I dynoed my trix last fall at 169whp. As you can see, not a big difference especially if you include the fact that the rex is heavier. But then she has awd and more torque...For the trix, the powertrain loss is about 12%. So if Rio dynoed 292 wheel horsepower, plus the 12% (reverse the calculation to see crank horsepower) about 35hp puts him at 327hp so a 100hp advantage over the rex.Listen, I'm not putting down the suby either, just showing you what the differences will be comparing with a STOCK WRX.Of course if you take into account the huge aftermarket support the Rex has, if you put a bit of money in it, she will "blow my doors off" even if I have a turbo.I guess a little test drive should clarify the situation trdvibe: Don't worry, no offence taken

from what i can tell (and hard to say since most of the sti's have atleast SOMETHING done to them) they run low to mid 13's. if moddified just a hair (stg 1) you're talking 12.9-13.3 sec.
Mid 13' is great for stock car, especially with a warranty on it As for me, I'm not kidding myself, until I get an LSD, launching the car will be a challenge. I would think maybe around 13.7-13.8 would be doable...Acceleration on the highway on the other hand should be quite "scary"!!!Will hopefully report my first impression next week
Been driving the car since last monday. Of course, as with everything new, we are trying (with Rio's and Jay's help) to fix 1 or 2 gremlins. I can say that the car is 95% completed and a blast to drive! Right now, I limit my RPM to about 6500rpm because of the aquamist not working being one of the gremlin. I really don't have much time to work on the car in the evening and since it is driveable, I don't feel like it's a HUGE rush. And this weekend, having 2 tickets for the 3 days of the F-1 race, no time (again) will be invested in the car Believe me guys, even shifting at 6500 rpm, the car is way faster then before. She is a beast!I can't wait to have access to that extra 2300rpm available Will do a more complete review with a few pics and comments when everything is 100% done.If you were thinking about getting the kit, do it as it is worth it. I feel like I just spent another 30000$can on a new car because that's what she feels like, A NEW CAR!
Awesome! Enjoy it. Have fun at the races, it's a blast. I went in Montreal quite a few times when my brother was the Technical Director of GM Motorsports and the whole weekend was free including hotel. It looks good for the weather.
