High idle even when warm

Post by shane_c »

I know that when you start the car in the morning it'll generally idle a little high. What should the idle be once it warms up? Mine always seems to vary. Sometimes it idles around 900 but other times higher. On the weekend after having driven for 1.5 hours on the highway I got where I was going and was stopped at a light and the car was idling at around 1400.

on my 03, it seems like after about 5 minutes of running it will idle at around 800 rpm, maybe a bit more or less. Takes longer to warm up when it's colder, (obviously)Still after 90 minutes on the highway, it should be as warm as it is going to get. not sure what would cause it to idle at 1400 just sitting there in neutral, stopped. Either there is something loading the engine down so much it needs to idle higher to keep from stalling under the load, or there is some sensor telling the computer something that makes it want to idle higher. doesn't sound normal.

I had this same problem with my 05 Base. Not sure what caused it but I:1. Pulled the battery for 20 min2. Removed and cleaned the MAF3. Restarted (do not rev or give any extra gas for 10 min)4. Turned the car off, restarted, problem went away.havent seen the problem again. Also, check that the VSV is sitting right if you have a CAI (Thanks Bluecrush, your tip about this damn thing helped out with some weird issues i was seeing with the engine)
