Well, Fri is my last working day in the Navy! Sat is my last actual day.I am so scared ****less I don't know what to do! Every since I came in I have wanted to get out, then when I was supposed to get out the first time I was so unprepared that I reenlisted for 3 years after changing from a paper-pusher back to an electronics technician where I originally started. I figured this time I would be ready earlier but unfortunately I wasn't. It's nobodies fault but my own, spending all my time on my car and GVC instead of getting a resume written, a job lined up, and finding a house. Now I am at the wire, still don't even have a potential job, no idea where I am going to go, what I am going to do, or how I am going to support my family and pay my bills! I am getting a small severence pay from the Navy and selling some vacation time back, but once that is gone I am screwed! I have been pushing my resume out, but with my limited experience and most likely lousy resume I haven't been getting any bites. We plan to go back to TX, preferably the Dallas area where I went to HS, but finding a job is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. I need to make something comparable to what I was making here to keep afloat, and unlike many would like to admit, that is quite a bit. Oh well, I'm done venting. I hope I find something soon...

I understand too. Granted, I HAVE a job right now, but I'm getting to the point where I'm absolutely miserable every day, and would love something new, but I'm scared to death to look outside the company. The fear of change, you know? There could be something really great out there but I'm too afraid to even look. ALL of my friends are here, my best friend of almost 20 years is here, even my boyfriend is here. I know what I'm doing in this job so my comfort level is high, but every morning I hate coming here. It's tough being a grown-up, isn't it? I wish I knew what else to tell you, other than I sort of know how you must feel--not that that helps. I hope that you get offered the perfect job for you--but do something that makes you happy.
I think a lot of us hit that point... when i moved back from AZ last year... i had literally nothing i left my ex and came back with 2 car fulls of clothes and lil crap. came back to mom and dad divorced and worked a job where i made a lil over half of what i used to!Wouldnt you make more money out is SD if you stayed.... and your already there so it would save a lot of money if you could get a good job there right? Did you try to get a (civilian) job on the base or where ever your working? Also have you tried the job search engines... thats honestly how i got my job now... im so glad i found it.Good luck and i hope you dont leave, cuz me and christian gotta meet up with you still!!!

I worked for this company for years. Pay is decent considering I had no experience, but it was cr@p work...but it sounds like you are in the situation I was in having to support a family.https://www.21st.com/cg/submit...it=GoI noticed a trainee position in TX (not too far from Dallas).
A lot of vets around here slide right into a civil service job right after they separate. Vets preference takes priority over anything else in the GS job world. It may not be in a field you're familiar with, but at least it'll be something. You seriously need to get started now though. The DOD personnel center is SLOW. I'm talking 2-3 months before they fill a job.
Good luck. I can't believe you don't have anything in the works and you have a family to support.I'm closing in on 15 years active duty, another 5 and i can retire.
Well I was in your shoes in 2003 cause I got out of the ARMY and I was nervous as hell! Luckily I had 2 months of vacation time so I got paid for 2 months after I left plus Im getting a disability check so that helped. The 1st thing I did was go to an agency that looked for jobs for me that included my experience ("pencil pusher" in your terms) and after about waiting like 3 days they got me a job! All I did was take the agency my resume and I took a few tests for them like a typing test and number keys test and Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point so they knew how much I knew about each. I dont know what agencies are in TX but here I used Select Personnel Services http://www.selectpersonnel.com/Select.aspx?t=Job1 you can type in zip code and it tells you whats available trough them. I have also tried Apple One http://www.appleone.com/ I tried typing in a zip code (not sure exacly where somewhere in TX 75201 and gave me jobs) Something to try. They do all the searching for you. You tell them what wage ou looking for and they look for you. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the input guys. To answer a few questions:I don't want to stay in SD b/c I don't want to raise my kid here, it is ridiculously expensive, and I am sick of living with my mother-in-law! I can't reenlist b/c I failed 3 physical tests in the last 4 years so I am not allowed to reenlist. + I would have to go back to sea duty and my wife doesn't want that.I have tried some military job search companies and am talking to a couple. I am also trying to get in a few other companies as well, nothing has come out of anything yet. I also have my resume on monster.com.As far as not being prepared, trust me, I know! If I had known I could have gotten hired months in advance like others are doing I would have started a long time ago, but laziness and procrastination got me again! As far as civil service and govt work, that would be great if I knew how to get in. I have also heard that it is a long process to get into that as well.I "can't" really go down much from where I am now b/c of bills. I tried to refi my Vibe since I am paying $540/mo, but they turned it down for some reason. Maybe once I am unemployed the will do it?Anyways, I am trying, maybe something will work out, if not I will be working numerous jobs so I can keep things going. I just want to jump straight to a career job instead of misc b/s.Oh, and Thank You for the Thank You!

I dislike LA more than SD! When I leave really just depends on when I find a job. Could be this weekend, could be August. Hard to say.

As for re-fi, they will be LESS likely to approve you once you're unemployed..also, what was their reason for declination? credit score? Man, I wish you the best of luck.
